Guests say

Armada Cottage in Dartmouth is highly praised for its cleanliness, well-equipped nature, and prime location close to shops and restaurants. Guests appreciate the property's charm, comfort, and the inclusion of a parking pass. While access involves steep steps and the narrow street can challenge parking, the cottage's amenities and homely feel consistently win over visitors.

Guests consistently report that the cottage is immaculately clean and well-maintained, with several reviews highlighting the spotless condition upon arrival.

The location is frequently described as excellent, being within easy walking distance to Dartmouth's centre, shops, and restaurants. The steep steps and narrow access street are noted, but the central location is a clear positive for guests.

The cottage is often described as cosy and comfortable, with a well-furnished interior. Some guests mentioned the beds being too soft or the main bedroom mattress not to their preference, which slightly affects the comfort score.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being well-equipped and offering amenities like a wood burner and outdoor terrace. However, some minor issues with maintenance and the lack of a welcome pack with essentials like milk and bin bags have been pointed out.

While some guests mentioned the lack of a welcome pack and the absence of gifts such as logs for the fire, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to accurately score thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score is set to null.

About this property

Armada Cottage is a traditional 19th century terraced town cottage, just a short stroll away from the heart of Dartmouth, with its boutique shops, art galleries, restaurants and waterfront. The accommodation has been refurbished in recent years whilst retaining much of its original character, including exposed stone fireplaces.

The property is reached via a flight of steps from Southford Road. Enter through the front door and find yourself in an open-plan living space, with kitchen, dining and seating areas, boasting a neutral décor mixed with period features and subtle nods to the seaside location. The comfortable living space features two sofas and a woodburning stove, perfect for cosying up on cooler evenings, with a set of double doors leading to a spacious patio area furnished with a table, chairs and a garden bench, ideal for enjoying al fresco dining in the summer sun.

At the rear of the living area is a dining table seating five guests.

Upstairs you will find two well presented bedrooms; a master bedroom with a King-size bed and a twin bedroom.

On the ground floor is a shower room with a large walk-in shower, whilst on the first floor is a family bathroom.

With a number of attractions within walking distance, such as Dartmouth Castle and museums, this is a great location for a couple or family. Take a boat up the River Dart to the quirky town of Totnes or village of Dittisham, or ride the Dart Valley Steam Railway from across the estuary at Kingswear. Alternatively, visit the stunning Start Bay coastline, just a short drive away, including the Blue Flag awarded Blackpool Sands beach.

Armada Cottage makes a great base for couples and families wanting to enjoy Dartmouth and the South Hams.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the stunning Start Bay coastline, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many popular events such as the annual Dart Music Festival, Dartmouth Food Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. This historic town boasts interesting landmarks, such as Dartmouth Castle, the Britannia Royal Naval College, and the National Trust’s Greenway House just a short ferry ride away. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through the rolling countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat or ferry trip across to Kingswear, on to Brixham, or down the river to the village of Dittisham. For those seeking sandy beaches, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular beaches just a stone's throw from Dartmouth.

The directions to the cottage need to change as we spent a long time trying to get to the cottage , the 6 ‘ wide restriction ( concrete bollards) caused us problems, they presented too much of a risk of damaging the car. We eventually ( after having to reverse down steep narrow streets) found a way to the opposite end of South Ford Road off Victoria Road and dropped off our baggage. The parking permit was great there after. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the cottage was excellent.

It isn’t really suitable for anyone with mobility issues or health conditions that affect walking up steep inclines and steep steps. This absolutely should be made clear on the website.
