Guests say

Crannacombe Farmhouse is a charming, characterful property set in a peaceful Devon location, offering a comfortable stay with lovely views and a welcoming host. Guests appreciate the quaintness, soft sofas, and the beautiful garden, ideal for relaxation amidst nature.

Reviews indicate some concerns with cleanliness, such as cobwebs and musty smells, but these issues seem isolated rather than widespread. The property may benefit from more thorough cleaning.

The farmhouse is appreciated for its tranquillity and picturesque setting. However, its remoteness requires a drive to amenities and the coast, which may not suit everyone.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the living areas cosy, particularly with the woodburner. Some concerns about creaking floors and a tricky en-suite step are noted.

The property is well-equipped but has some maintenance issues like non-functioning lights and low water pressure in showers. The kitchen and facilities are generally adequate.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the host, aside from a warm welcome, so it is not possible to score this category.

We especially enjoyed curling up in the lounge in the evenings on the soft sofas, must be lovely in the winter months with the woodburner roaring away. We appreciated the peacefulness of the location, it was lovely to be able to wander up the lane every evening with only the owls and red deer for company. The garden was absolutely beautiful, we enjoyed some late afternoon siesta's there just soaking in the gorgeous 'Thomas Hardy' views, with only the sounds of birds over head and the breeze in the trees. Sheila, the owner, was lovely, very very helpful, thank you Sheila for sharing your bit of heaven with us.

However there were some annoying niggles. The en suite shower offers only a trickle of water; the loo in the family bathroom is a struggle to flush; provision of only one toilet roll per loo is a bit mean. In the kitchen there's a paper kitchen-towel holder with no kitchen towel; no handtowel is provided; the lamp over the hob doesn't work and setting 3 for the extractor doesn't work; there's no washing-up brush; the cupboards all smell musty. In the folder and on hand-written notes several instructions or guidances are out-of-date. All this can be easily addressed, but maybe not the cupboards. There's a concrete 'hump' across the drive entrance which snags on a car undercarriage but it seems as though it exists to keep heavy rain from flowing into the driveway.

Also, it’s a shame the nearest shop and pub are a drive away. The farmhouse is full of character (which we loved), and well equipped but the creaking doors and floors were not so easy to manage with a sleeping baby! The hostess is lovely, and would resolve any issues if any occurred
