About this property

This smartly renovated, single-storey annexe is attached to the owner’s farmhouse in a peaceful location, on the outskirts of Aveton Gifford. Enjoying the delights of a farm with idyllic valley views, The Hideaway is a perfect break for families looking to escape to this location in Devon. Internally, the annexe has been immaculately presented with a touch of glamour; the open-plan living space is sure to be the social hub of the home, equipped with all the necessities for a weekend away. Dust off those cooking books and relish in the sleek kitchen, finished with quartz tops, an electric oven and induction hob, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, so you won’t have to raise a finger when cleaning up! There’s also a washer/dryer, handy for when your walks take off on a muddier route. Cross the threshold and warm your feet up on the underfloor heating, settling down on the corner sofa and enjoying entertainment from the TV. At each end of the annexe lies the bedrooms; the master occupies a king-size bed with views down the valley whilst the second bedroom provides a twin, with both featuring zip/link beds for added flexibility. Pour a favourite drink and head out to the enclosed garden patio, where you can reflect on the day’s events whilst admiring the serene setting. Within the village of Aveton Gifford is a welcoming pub, The Fisherman’s Rest, where you can treat the group to a hearty meal, or head to the village store and grab any cupboard essentials. Five miles away lies Bigbury on Sea, home to a popular beach, dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, ideal for families and watersports (surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding) and also beautiful Bigbury Golf course. Just a short drive away you’ll also find the beaches of Bantham, Thurlestone and South Milton Sands along with many others in the area including Burg Island that has a sea tractor to get to the pub. Closeby lies Challaborough Beach, offering a sheltered horseshoe cove backed by rugged cliffs, providing many great walks. For a change of scenery, the nearby towns of Modbury and Kingsbridge offer a choice of restaurants, supermarkets and a cinema, providing entertainment for an afternoon. While away to The Hideaway and uncover this delightful region of Devon.

On the western side of Devon's magnificent South Hams region, the tiny and charming Georgian market town of Modbury is situated in the centre of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are many stores, cosy taverns, and excellent restaurants in Modbury. This is a location for folks who love fantastic options for walking, cycling, sailing, surfing, and sea bathing. It is surrounded by unspoiled rolling countryside and borders a gorgeous coastline. Discover the unrivalled South Devon coast, which features stunning sandy beaches (some of which welcome dogs year-round) and an absolutely stunning coastal path. Visit some of the quaint estuary towns and villages scattered around the region, such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge, and Dartmouth, if you have the time. We also loved being on a working farm with cattle literally the other side of the fence, wonderful to wake up to. This was the best accommodation we've had in an area we've been visiting for nearly 30 years. Yes, the lanes are very narrow and can be a challenge but that's something you have to expect in such a rural part of the country. See you next year!

Great for coastal walks nearby including burgh island , well worth a visit. Nice comfortable well equipped cottage all on one level . Lovely shower and well equipped kitchen. Vicky and her lemon drizzle were brilliant a very lovely host. If it’s clear it’s a great dark sky area. Lots of local wildlife , owls squirrels and raptors. Very enjoyable visit.

It was clean, spacious for 4 people (2 adults & 2 children) & well appointed with everything we could need on our week away. Vicky was a super host offering recommendations of beaches to visit, activities to keep both kids & adults happy & places to eat. The welcome package was perfect after a long drive & the home made lemon cake was delicious!! A word of warning if you aren't confident driver, access to the Hideaway is down some very narrow lanes & reversing to passing places happened often but that's the Devonshire roads for you & it wouldn't put me off booking to stay here again in the future. Highly recommended!!
