A spacious and substantial house with wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces for entertaining friends and family.
Take in the glorious sea views, and enjoy meandering around the landscaped grounds as you relax in style and privacy.
Mandalay is a beautiful, private and substantial house set amongst landscaped grounds on the outskirts of Salcombe. To one side of the house are views over the North Sands valley and out to sea; the other takes in the beautiful Devon countryside and glorious sunsets. From the bottom of the garden you can get onto Beadon Road which in no time takes you down to the ever popular North Sands beach and the Winking Prawn – a Salcombe institution!
Spacious and light, it is perfect for groups and families looking to enjoy some tranquillity in style. Leading off the main living area there is a large terrace just perfect for entertaining, and the gardens are a joy to explore. Perhaps you’ll find the secluded summer house with decking and a charcoal barbecue; a popular spot for a catch up with an old friend or family member.
The steep driveway down to the house makes for an impressive entrance to Mandalay. Above the garage is the modern annexe with a wonderful bedroom that leads out onto a balcony where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine with a cup of tea. There is an en suite shower room and kitchenette which makes the annexe a great place for grandparents or for teens wanting their own space.
Entering the main house takes you into the recently upgraded kitchen which is spacious and well-equipped. A Sage coffee machine will make coffee lovers very happy as it makes the ultimate cup of coffee from fresh beans, freshly ground at the touch of a button, freshly extracted, all in less than 60 seconds.
There is plenty of storage for food and the all important drinks in both the kitchen and garage fridges. The open plan kitchen leads to the dining area and through to the first sitting room with glorious views, wood burner and television; a great space to spend time relaxing with your guests.
Doors from the kitchen/dining area lead out onto the most wonderful, sunny and impressively positioned terrace. There is plenty of seating for al fresco dining and relaxation whilst taking in those sea views.
A second sitting room houses an enormous television with surround sound; perfect for watching the latest Hollywood blockbusters, or for enjoying more of those sea views.
Upstairs to the first floor is where you’ll find four generously proportioned bedrooms and bathrooms. The master bedroom (super king or twin) with en suite bathroom is large and has superb views out to sea. The second bedroom (kingsize) also has its own en suite bathroom.
Two further bedrooms (a twin room, and a room that can be either a super king size or twin) share a family bathroom and an additional shower room, so plenty of bathing facilities for all your guests.
Head up the stairs to the top floor where you will find a beautifully styled super king bedroom with an en-suite. Step out onto the balcony and have your breath taken away by the views.
Outside the house it is a pleasure to meander through the terraced gardens. Throughout the year the flowers are changing, and in autumn you are welcome to enjoy freshly picked apples from the orchard area. There is a summer house in the garden with some outdoor furniture on the decking and a barbecue. This is a particularly lovely spot to chill out and watch the night draw in as the sun sets.
At the bottom of the garden there is access to Beadon Road which takes you down to North Sands when you’re ready to leave Mandalay for some beach action.
Please note that the driveway is steep and you should be confident with your clutch!
Gardeners will be working for 3 hours on a Monday in the grounds.
Please note that children should be supervised in the gardens at all times.
No smoking allowed.
One well behaved dog welcome at the discretion of the owner and an additional charge per week.
If you love the look of Mandalay but can't quite fill all of the bedrooms, there is a reduced occupancy version of the house sleeping up to 6 guests in 3 bedrooms called Verre de Mer.

Thank you for a lovely stay at Mandalay. The beautiful decorated comfortable house is in a perfect location high amongst the trees and overlooking the sea. We were fortunate with the weather and got to enjoy the stunning views from the terrace. We would love to return in the future.

We loved staying at Mandalay - a beautiful house with an amazing view of both the sea and the hills in a great location for town and beach. If the sun had shone more we’d have stayed out on the balcony most of the time enjoying being up amongst the treetops and birds. It was a perfect house for our family gathering with plenty of room to be together and have our own spaces. We enjoyed the luxurious touches at the same time as feeling perfectly at home.

We had a wonderful stay at Mandalay - second year in a row. The house is perfect for us and we much prefer its traditional style to a more modern glass palace. It is comfortable and welcoming and the terrace is fabulous. It’s so private and the views are just stunning. You’re right to highlight the steep access but this didn’t bother us as we were a party of seven adults plus a dog….and its elevated position is delightful. Sitting on the terrace in last week’s amazing weather, we wondered why we ever went abroad. The concierge service was very efficient and the people who arrived to clean the property were also very friendly and helpful.
