About this property

Tucked away on the outskirts of the pretty village of Tedburn St Mary is Great Huish Farm. Approximately seven miles from the historic city of Exeter, this 40 acre sheep farm is just a short drive away from the north eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park. The original ploughman's quarters have been expertly converted from a 16th century long barn where the heavy horses were stabled to two superb, adjoining holiday homes. The Yoke, the smaller of the two, retains much of the character of the original barn with ancient beams and sloping ceilings. The living space is bright, airy and open plan, complete with wood burning stove and oak floors and encompasses a stylish kitchen area. A winding staircase leads to the pretty bedroom which enjoys sweeping views across open fields. Outside, guests have their own patio overlooking the lawned garden which is shared with its neighbour, The Furrow.

Tedburn St Mary lies on the inland Devon, just three miles from the Dartmoor National Park and west of the cathedral of Exeter. The village is home to thatched cottages and two good pubs and a shop. Tedburn St Mary also offers the Tedburn Fair, held every September and a Methodist church. Other attractions close by and well worth a visit are the Crealy Adverture Park, the beaches at Exmouth and Teignmouth and the National Trust properties of Castle Drogo, Killerton House and Lydford Gorge.

Clean and cosy, with friendly hosts in a lovely quiet location. We enjoyed our stay very much. Devon is beautiful and The Yoke is in a great location to enjoy all the best sights and day trips in and around Exeter and the Torbay area.

It was nice and quiet and secluded and the property is well maintained and well kitted out. Some minor issues with cleanliness - flies and spiders/cobwebs, although I appreciate this comes with staying in a rural property. A bigger issue was the heavy winter duvet which made sleeping during hot August nights in the roof uncomfortable. Also, we had brought DVDs to watch as this was listed under the features (TV/DVD), but there was no DVD player. A more serious concern was what appeared to be an asbestos door on the shed in the garden. I had to make sure the dog and ourselves stayed clear of it and would suggest this be removed.
