The Light House in Bideford, Devon, consistently impresses guests with its stunning estuary views, tasteful decoration, and comfortable furnishings. Its proximity to Appledore and local attractions, alongside thoughtful touches like a welcoming cream tea, contribute to a delightful stay. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is highly praised for cleanliness, location, and amenities.
Guests frequently commend the property for its cleanliness, describing it as spotless and well-maintained. One mention of cobwebs on the balcony suggests a slight deduction, but overall, the high standards are evident.
The property's location is celebrated for its superb views and proximity to Appledore, with easy access to local shops and eateries. Some concerns about parking and the approach to the property slightly affect the score.
Reviews highlight the property's comfort, particularly the beds and warm, cosy atmosphere. The mention of a shin injury due to bed placement suggests a minor comfort issue for some guests.
Facilities are generally praised, especially the well-equipped kitchen and internet TV. However, points are deducted for reported issues with the dishwasher, freezer, and BBQ, indicating room for improvement in maintenance.
While guests appreciate the welcoming touches such as cream tea, there is insufficient information to determine if such gestures are consistent across all stays. Therefore, a score cannot be accurately provided, and guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.

In the twin room sink into the luxury mattresses on the oak sleigh beds and soak in the stylish and gently Art Deco feel of the room. If you are the lucky person who gets bedroom three you can spend your time creating wonders at the beautiful desk over-looking the estuary, and even set your bed up sofa-style during the day and enjoy your own mini ‘sitting room’. The family shower-room benefits from a rain-shower, large stainless-steel towel rail and a sun-pipe in the ceiling. If you are bringing little ones, a travel-cot, stair-gate and baby listener can provided - because packing for a young family is hard enough without having these on your list! After a day of sun and miles of sand at Westard Ho! beach, or the fun of crab fishing over the edge of the bustling quay, return ‘home’ to enjoy the fabulous views across the estuary while the barbecue sizzles and take all your meals alfresco on the comfortable patio. Relax after a day of walking, cycling or simply enjoying the excellent pubs, restaurants, delis, art galleries and quirky shops in the village. While you're in Appledore, don’t forget to take the little fishing boat ‘ferry’ across to Instow beach, and sample the famous Hockings ice-cream with clotted cream. Or head five minutes away to the seaside village of Westward Ho! with its endless sandy beach, pop-up oyster bar and seaside fun - perfect for days of sunbathing, swimming, sandcastle-competitions or taking the opportunity to take up some surfing! Fabulous for breathtaking winter walks too. Appledore is a wonderful location, great eateries with lovely rambling walks. There was one point of negativity, unpleasant patches of mould on main bedroom ceiling. This must have been cleaned off before we arrived because it grew as our week progressed. Weâre sure that this problem will be resolved because otherwise it was the perfect break.

The moment we walked through the door we were blown away. It was so thoughtfully decorated with no expense spared. It was really nice to have a pint of milk, fresh scones, jam and clotted cream (in fridge) there waiting for us.. We spent time in the lower garden taking in the ever changing views. I have to say that we are missing it already. We had a lovely evening meal out in the Flame Factory and breakfast in the Coffee Cabin. The Seagate was also a great place for an evening out. We drove to Torrington and hired bikes and had a lovely afternoon cycling to Instow (having lunch at the Instow Arms) and back. Appledore is a lovely place to holiday and the Light House was the perfect accommodation. This holiday was the best and calmest we have had so far with our 16 year old Autistic son. We hope we will be able to return sometime in the future. A few small things we feel need attention are the fridge which is very small and the freezer compartment was very frosted up and I think the door to it was broken. This resulted in the fridge door not closing properly. The barbecue really could do with updating as it is very rusty and looked pretty grim/dirty. We did however clean the area we cook on and did use it. It cooked the food well. While having the BBQ we did notice that the only tongs we could find in the kitchen kept falling apart so we had to just use a fork to turn over the meat. Thankyou to Lisa for great communication to my questions prior to the holiday.
