Most of our many holidays over more than 50 years have been in self-catering accommodation - both in the UK and abroad. I think that Cedars Lodge is probably the best equipped and most comfortable we have stayed at. Entrance is through the kitchen, which is spacious and with everything even the most demanding of cooks might need: cooker with infra red hob, dishwasher, microwave oven, stick blender etc etc. The stock of cutlery and crockery is very generous for a two-person accommodation. The end of the kitchen has an area containing a breakfast bar and the washing machine/dryer. Our two rescue dogs were very happy to be bedded down in this snug space. The kitchen has a door leading into a square area in the middle of the house, with a coat stand, cabinet and doors leading into the bedroom, bathroom and lounge. The spacious bathroom has a wet-room style shower and heated towel rail, plus the usual. The bedroom has a king-sized bed with a firm, comfortable mattress, and fitted cupboards, drawers and dressing tables. Each side of the bed has a small cabinet and bright bedside light. The lounge has a leather covered suite comprising a three seat and two seat settees, plus and armchair. The TV provides Sky, Netflix and Prime. The broadband WiFi worked well. A windowed door from the lounge leads to the dining/sun lounge area which faces South East, with views over the hillside beyond, so it gets a lot of sun in the morning and is a nice spot to have afternoon tea. There is a dining table with four chairs. The windows have blinds for use in case the sun gets too powerful. The sun lounge has a door leading onto the patio area, which has tables and chairs for al fresco dining and a fire pit style barbecue. The grassy area is a bit smaller than it might appear from the pictures of the property, but perfectly adequate for dogs to do what dogs need to do. Overall, the accommodation is to a very high standard. It is warm, comfortable, pleasing to the eye and surprisingly spacious for just two people. The friendly owners, live in the attached house and gave us a very warm welcome as well as much useful advice about the local area. There are a dozen or so beaches and country walks within half an hour's drive, great places to eat, supermarkets, pubs and tea rooms for traditional Devon cream teas with mega-scones (but don't forget: cream on first, then the jam!)
