Bere Alston, a tiny town in Devon, sits in an aonb (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) between the mighty rivers Tavy and Tamar. There was a time when the settlement was a bustling harbour serving the tin trade from Dartmoor. Morwellam Quay, just upstream from Bere Alston on the river Tamar, was once a bustling port where half the world's copper passed through in the 1860s and is now a renowned tourist site detailing the history of copper mining. Tamar Valley line trains go between Bere Alston and Plymouth through the scenic river valley. There are wonderful walks in the surrounding countryside, as well as a general store and bar in the nearby village of Bere Alston. There are two National Trust buildings nearby: Cotehele, a Tudor manor house with beautiful gardens that extend down to the river Tamar, and Buckland Abbey, an estate on the river Tavy that features craft workshops and family attractions.

Hosts very friendly but not intrusive. Good position for visiting Tavistock and the Moors. Quiet position on the outskirts of Bere Alston. Sykes website make it so easy to find a suitable cottage too.
