During the day, explore the ancient woodlands at the stunning Becky Falls, visit the National Trust's Castle Drogo with its beautiful Hunter's Trail walk with spectacular views, stop in to the Warren House Inn on Dartmoor (the highest pub in Southern England, said to have had a fire burning continuously since 1845) for some light refreshments and in the evening, come home to enjoy a glass of wine on the gorgeous decked balcony while you take in the tranquil estate views. If your day out has been fun-packed and busy and you feel like a break from cooking, you can order meals from the main reception and have them delivered to your lodge
Enter this exquisite retreat and you’ll find a beautifully designed open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining area where impressive high-beam ceilings and a stone-built central wood burner-effect fire create a welcoming ambience. Take a moment to soak up the mid-century-modern charm of this spacious lounge before making your way to the country-style kitchen/dining area to whip up some dinner. Gather everyone around the elegant dining table for a sociable meal, or head out onto the pretty decked terrace, fire up a BBQ and dine alfresco. Afterwards, head to the lounge area to treat yourself to a glass of wine by the open stone fireplace. At the end of the day, there are three stylish bedrooms to choose from. Upstairs, you’ll find an elegant king-size bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, which includes a separate shower and bath. From the middle floor, descend to the left, and you’ll find a super-king zip-and-link bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, featuring a shower over the bath. Across the hallway, the third bedroom boasts a king-size bed, double doors leading to a small decked area, and an en-suite shower room. In the morning, make use of the amazing onsite facilities, which include a swimming pool, a spa with sauna and steam room, a gym, tennis courts and children's play area with swings and climbing frame.
Grab your binoculars and head to Fernworthy Reservoir (6 miles) to spot sandpipers, great black-backed gulls and common crossbills. History buffs in your group will also love seeing the remains of ancient Bronze Age hut circles. Alternatively, head into the charming town of Bovey Tracey (10 miles) for a wander about treat yourself to a delicious Devonshire cream tea at the chocolate box thatched village of Lustleigh (6miles). Further afield the coastal towns of Teignmouth (20miles) and Torquay (24miles) provide beaches and water-sports, and the city of Plymouth with its National Marine Aquarium (a fantastic attraction for adults and children alike) and the historic Barbican area with the Mayflower steps where the Pilgrim Fathers are believed to have left England on board the Mayflower ship in 1620 to cross the Atlantic and settle in America.
On occasion the hotel has private functions in it’s lounges and restaurants that may affect their availability to our lodge guests.
For Guests booking over the Christmas period:
- Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are not available in the hotel from the afternoon of 24th until after breakfast on 27th December.
- A pre-booked Christmas day lunch can be ordered to your lodge along with sharing platters for 24th & 25th evenings, and a cooked meal on 26th evening.
- Smith’s Brasserie will be open from the evening of 24th December and all day on 25th & 26th December between 9am and 8pm for drinks only.
- The main hotel bar and lounges are reserved exclusively for our hotel package guests on these days between noon and 8pm.
- Before Christmas and between Christmas and New Year normal restaurant opening times operate and pre-booking is recommended.
For guests booking over the New Year period:
- Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are not available in the hotel from the afternoon of 31st December until after breakfast on 2nd January.
- A pre-booked sharing platter can be ordered to your lodge for the evening of 31st December, and a cooked meal on 1st January evening.
- Smith’s Brasserie will be open all day on 31st December & 1st January between 9am and 8pm for drinks only.
- The main hotel bar and lounges are reserved exclusively for our hotel package guests on these days between noon and 8pm.
- Between Christmas and New Year and after New Year normal restaurant opening times operate.
