Sourton Down is a small hamlet on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park. There is a Shell garage with takeaway food and supplies, as well as a pub called The Pump & Pedal and a bike rental company. The remnants of a mediaeval castle, which provide tours, walking pathways, and picnic areas with beautiful flowers, are located in the neighbouring town of Okehampton, as is the Museum of Dartmoor Life, which is housed in a charming 19th century mill. There's also a golf course, a train station, and plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants for a fun day out. Meldon has a quarry, bridge, and reservoir, all of which provide stunning views and fantastic walking trails to see all three. Sourton Down provides quick access to the Black-a-Tor hiking region, as well as superb access to the rest of Devon by automobile, thanks to its location between two A-roads. The Saxton town of Lydford, which has a lot of history, from the ruins of an English Heritage castle to the National Trust Lydford Gorge, which has wooded trails and a waterfall, is also worth a visit.

Was very pleased to see Ashbury hotel itself has had a well deserved makeover in reception/bar area and the facilities available are amazing. Thank you again to the owners of the lodge for allowing us to share your home, we will be back !

We had an awful holiday last year and this totally made us fall in love with holidays again. It was clean, spacious and so many things to do on your door step. There is a bit of building work going on but didnt bother us at all. We will definitely be booking again. It's a hidden gem

For this lodge, the photos represented outdoor seating in excellent order, along with cushions and an umbrella. None of the above applied, while our son cut his hand on the rough timber seating. On reporting this ( the outdoor seating provision)to the cleaner, the owners weren't prepared to discuss the issues, while Sykes completely disregarded our complaint and the misrepresentation as to the seating. Having paid £1800 for the 3 days( 4 days in terms of advertised stay, but a late check in of 5pm ) we had previously encountered an earlier check in as to the neighboring Lodges and comfy outdoor seating,( sofas, egg chairs) in excellent condition. Having elderly parents with us, unable to use the sporting facilities, their sitting on the elevated decking was essential to the stay and restricted due to the aforementioned basic furniture and rough condition. We have stayed at many Lodges, with 3pm check ins, welcome packs( as opposed to 3 tablets of soap across the bathrooms and no provision as to shampoos etc- minor niggles admittedly) with the lodge owners eager to deal with any issues that apply. This owner refused to discuss our issues on the 2nd day of the stay, as did Sykes. With the cut to my sons hand , the health ans safety issue, as reported, resulted in no apology or offer as to compensation. Paying £1800 for the 3 days , you would expect a reasonable check in time and provision and certainly outdoor furniture in good condition and with cushions, as per the photo representation. The lodge is far more basic compared to the others.
