The small, family-friendly seaside resort of Swanage is situated at the eastern end of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast, on the celebrated Isle of Purbeck and is probably best known for its wonderful, gently shelving golden sands. The little town offers visitors plenty of shops, good pubs and restaurants, some of which specialise in locally caught seafood, and is also well known for its annual jazz festival, which takes place each July. The attractive, Victorian wooden pier offers a great place for a stroll or try fishing, and often used a departure point for divers, it’s a wonderful place to watch the world pass by. The historic Swanage Railway has its terminus in the town and regular nostalgic steam engine trips take tourists for a picturesque 6-mile journey, chugging through lovely countryside to stop just beyond the romantic ruin of Corfe Castle. Nearby Durlston Country Park offers a lovely day out with spectacular coastal walks, dolphin spotting and wildlife watching, together with comfortable viewing points and a well-stocked cafe for a treat after all the fresh air. Take the short drive to Studland, which has one of the finest beaches in the country, surrounded by heathland, together with the regular chain ferry, which crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour to Sandbanks. But on opening the front door , it was “wow”. So, a lovely property inside. Clean, modern, well-equipped. A sweet little patio outside. Conveniently placed for the town centre. A property that would suit younger couples rather than those of us in our later years. No blinds or curtains downstairs, so no privacy one darkness arrives. Sykes gave us confusing information about accessing the property via the key box. In an earlier email you quoted one code number and then in the final message you gave us another one. That was the number we had kept in our phone and it didn’t work on the box we first tried. We then found the second box at ground level, which accessing it was quite a challenge for an 80 year-old. Rather off putting! And then we were disappointed that the television set was not equipped to receive the terrestrial TV channels. In the welcome folder at the property there was information about linking our own device to the TV set but we didn’t have any kit with us to make that possible. Luckily we did have an iPad with us so we could watch the programmes we wanted to see. This information should have been included in the property details on the Sykes website. Most disappointing. Finally, we noted that a significant amount of the crockery was chipped and that previous guests had placed glasses on the coffee table leaving water marks. Not quite top quality considering that it was a newly built property.

...everyone very apologetic and all worked out OK. House as advertised. We could tell by the photo the garden was small but it was OK , big enough for table and chairs and as it was hot we could open the patio doors and eat outside. New property and paint etc new. On the edge of town but not a long walk into town and the beach, we looked at the map when booking so knew it was not near the sea but actually not too bad. We do not usually rent a place without parking but it was the only accommodation left at such short notice in school holidays, but it was OK we found street parking close.Handy little supermarket just down the street.
