Crewkerne: 3 miles. Nestled in the pretty village of South Perrott, on the Dorset/Somerset border, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is this charming two-storey former granary, The Old Granary. Attached to a Grade ll-listed, 17th-century farmhouse, it is well located to explore West Dorset, with its World Heritage Jurassic coastline, and South Somerset and East Devon are within easy reach. The Old Granary boasts a magnificent spacious open-plan living area on the first floor and can comfortably accommodate four guests, making this a perfect choice for a family holiday. Step into the pretty hallway of your new home-from-home on the ground floor, where two neatly-presented bedrooms can be found, a double and a twin, along with a spacious shower room. An open-tread staircase leads to the first floor with its magnificent high vaulted ceiling and original oak beams. There is a lovely sitting area with generously-sized sofas, a Smart TV and a selection of books and games, a dining area with table and chairs for four, and a well-equipped kitchen area. The windows and the French doors, which open onto a Juliet balcony, look out over the owners’ attractive garden. Outside, there is ample parking and a picnic table and chairs in a secluded area of the garden where you can relax and dine alfresco in the sunshine. You are welcome to use the adjoining paddock for games and recreation. South Perrott is a delightful small village set in the glorious West Dorset countryside, close to the Somerset border, and lying on the A356 Crewkerne to Dorchester Road with easy access from the A303. The village can trace its history back to the Domesday Book and has retained much of its original character and beauty with thatched cottages along the main road and houses built in the local hamstone. The beautiful church of St Mary’s in South Perrott dates back to the 13th century. The River Parrett, which rises just a mile up the hill at Chedington, winds through the village, and keen walkers can follow its route along the River Parrett Trail all the way to the Bristol Channel! The market town of Crewkerne is just 3 miles away, with good facilities and a selection of shops, cafés and pubs, and the lovely Old Coaching Inn at Winyards Gap in Chedington (1.2 miles) or the Admiral Hood in Mosterton (2 miles) serve delicious lunches and suppers. The village of South Perrott is perfectly situated to explore this beautiful area beloved by Thomas Hardy. There are numerous footpaths and bridleways affording long-distance views and the ancient towns of Beaminster, Bridport and Dorchester are all within an easy drive. The World Heritage Jurassic coast, running from Swanage in the east to Exmouth in the west, is just a short drive away and boasts a fine choice of beautiful beaches at West Bay, Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Weymouth. Why not try fossil-hunting along the coast at Lyme Regis, take a sea fishing trip from West Bay, or an invigorating walk along the cliff paths? With friendly owners on hand to ensure you experience the best holiday possible, The Old Granary is the perfect choice to explore this beautiful area.
In a stunning area of outstanding natural beauty in the West Dorset countryside, about 3 miles from Crewkerne and less than 5 miles from Beaminster, the village of Mosterton is a vibrant neighbourhood with superb local amenities. The town is ideally located to discover this magnificent rural region, which Thomas Hardy adored and was recently frequently shown in the River Cottage TV series. Locally, the Monarch Way offers wonderful walking opportunities, and Forde Abbey and Cricket St. Thomas Wildlife Park are both conveniently located. The old rope-making town of Bridport is only ten miles away. At West Bay, you may go sea fishing or fossil-hunting along the picturesque Jurassic Coast. An excellent setting for a fun and relaxed trip.
