There are walking and cycling routes right on the doorstep, and guests are literally minutes from the golden sands of the private estate beach, the secluded Charton Bay. From here the coastal paths offer superb walks along the Jurassic Coast where fossil hunting is popular with some of the rocks on the beach being up to 200 million years old. Afterwards take a trip to Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, and compare your finds against their collections! Lyme Regis, known as “the pearl of Dorset”, is situated at the heart of the coast and boasts incredible breathtaking scenery. The picturesque harbour town is home to a plethora of independent shops, cafes and galleries, as well as the Town Mill; an ancient watermill set in the artisan quarter of Lyme Regis and rescued from dereliction by local volunteers. Nestled around the cobbled courtyard, these restored buildings house a working flour mill, as well as a silversmith, artists’ studios, seamstress, baker and deli, and a micro brewery.

The nearby village of Beer is well with a visit while on the Jurassic coast, this picturesque unspoilt fishing village was once a smugglers haven and today is famous for its seafaring tradition and stunning cliff coastline. The beach here is a natural suntrap sheltered by the limestone cliffs, and is a ‘working beach’, always dotted with brightly coloured boats, nets, winches and working fishermen. After working up an appetite along the coast, Beer is the perfect location for some tasty fish and chips, all freshly caught and best eaten while sat on the beach watching the waves. Ground Floor
