The superb staircase is simply stunning and the route to the first floor is lined with wonderful portrait paintings. The Old Manor House is the perfect choice for big group holidays. This secluded countryside setting is all you need to relax and recharge. This part of Dorset would have been well known by Thomas Hardy who would have been familiar with the house as well as the village, of which features in his book ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’. Although recent upgrades have been made to ensure it is up to the modern standard, its historic beauty is still very much retained. Puddletown is a small, quiet village that somehow seems to preserve a magical sense of times past. Formerly called Piddletown, for being close to the River Piddle, legend has it that Queen Victoria insisted the name was changed. The village is an attractive mish-mash of thatched and slate roofs with a very well-preserved old church that boasts a Norman frontage and a 17th century gallery. Just a few minutes’ walk is The Blue Vinny public house. It has a family friendly atmosphere and serves locally sourced home cooked food and real ales. There is also a local shop nearby for all your essentials. Easily accessible footpaths can be picked up from within the village and Puddletown Forest is a wonderful spot for walkers, dog walkers and cyclists offering well marked paths lined with tall trees and conifers. You can experience some wonderful views across the Purbeck from higher up. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are iconic landmarks along the Jurassic Coast and are only a short 20-minute drive away. Revel in amazing views as far as the Isle of Portland as the South West Coast Path snakes along the edge of the limestone cliffs. The white pebble beach has clear shallow waters revealing wonderful rock pools and marine life to explore. Family attractions such as the Dinosaur Museum and the Tutankhamun Exhibition can be found in Dorchester, only a 4 mile drive. Dorchester is a vibrant town full of character and in the popular Brewery Square you will find a number of leading chain restaurants and independent eateries to choose from. The alfresco setting brings a Covent Garden feel and provides the perfect location to watch the world go by. Alongside the wonderful food there is also a multiscreen cinema and a parade of shops. Delightful Dorset is a charming county to spend holidaying with family and friends and The Old Manor House is the picture perfect country house ready to be made your home away from home.

Puddletown is a village resting in the county of Dorchester, and is famed for its connection to one of the literary greats, Thomas Hardy. Named 'Weatherbury' by Hardy and used as the village in his book Far From The Madding Crowd, the Hardy's lived here and his parents are buried in the churchyard. Nowadays the village is served by a shop and a great local pub, and is surrounded by delightful countryside, with great opportunities for walking.
