Foxden is a characterful cottage praised for its central location in Sherborne and its blend of old-world charm with modern conveniences. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and responsive owners. However, some noted issues with maintenance, cleanliness in specific areas, and the suitability of the cottage for those with mobility concerns due to steps and stairs.
Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. While some guests found the cottage spotless, others reported dust, cobwebs, and a lack of thorough cleaning prior to arrival. The presence of fungus and unclean kitchenware in one review significantly impacts the score.
The location is highly praised for being central and close to the town centre, with the convenience of a parking space. However, some guests mentioned traffic noise as a downside.
Guests generally find the cottage comfortable, with a good blend of character and modern amenities. However, concerns about the suitability for more than two people, tricky stairs, and the need for better shower facilities slightly lower the score.
Facilities are adequate, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings mentioned. However, several reviews cite issues with maintenance, such as the need for handrails, better lighting, and improved bathroom facilities, which affects the score.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owners, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

The historic town of Sherborne is home to numerous magnificent structures, historic inns, and charming shops. It is situated on the lovely banks of the River Yeo and is surrounded by gorgeous, unspoiled countryside. Sherborne is a great spot for a day of touring or a peaceful afternoon stroll. It is probably best known for its lovely abbey and two majestic castles, one of which is relatively "new," only dating back to 1594 and possessing superbly planted grounds. The gorgeous Stourhead mansion and grounds and the magnificent Dorset Heritage Coast are both accessible by short drives, while the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton in Somerset, which features breathtaking displays of historic aircraft—including Concorde—is only across the border. A great place for the whole family.

Never used cutlery, glasses or crockery, never looked that clean. Realised towards end of holiday there was only pillow protectors on and no pillow cases. Slip mat needed in bath.

The curves on both stairs need handrails, as do the steps in the garden. The bath with a hand shower needs a shower curtain, as noted by previous guests, also the wooden bathroom floor becomes slippery when wet. We had to sweep away wet leaves which made the patio and path slippery. There was not enough crockery to justify using the small dishwasher in the tiny kitchen. There was dirt and dust in a corner of the lounge. A very disappointing experience, not up to the usual standard of a Sykes property.

It has been sympathetically restored and furnished. However, it has the drawbacks of a period property and we found it rather compact and dark with very tricky stairs and access. We were unlucky to encounter a significant woodlouse problem during our stay. There is some traffic noise, but it didn't disturb us unduly.
