Guests say

Mouse Hole Cottage in Cheltenham is a well-received holiday rental, praised for its spaciousness, great location, and cosy charm. Guests appreciate the traditional Cotswold character, the warm and clean environment, and the thoughtful welcome gifts. While some mention the need for updates, particularly to the showers, the cottage's overall comfort and the convenience of local amenities contribute to a positive experience.

The majority of guests have found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about cobwebs and dust. The consistent mention of cleanliness suggests a high standard is typically met.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local shops, restaurants, and historic sites like Sudeley Castle. The convenience and charm of the town of Winchcombe contribute to the cottage's appeal.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, noting its cosy atmosphere and warm environment. Some guests, however, feel that certain furniture pieces could be more comfortable and that the property could benefit from modernisation.

Facilities are generally seen as adequate, with a well-equipped kitchen and good laundry amenities. However, several reviews suggest that the showers, particularly the upstairs one, require updating, and some minor maintenance issues are noted.

Guests frequently mention and appreciate the welcome gifts, such as wine and biscuits, which add a thoughtful touch to their stay. It's important to note that such gestures, while common, are not guaranteed for every visit.

About this property

This 17th century stone cottage is situated in the Saxon town of Winchcombe in the heart of the Cotswolds. This traditional, country-style property is bursting at the seams with character, from the exposed wooden beams and sloped ceilings, to the thoughtful detailing in the décor, providing delightful accommodation ideal for families or friends seeking something a bit different. On the ground floor, the kitchen is well-equipped, sporting a quality design with cream units, wooden worktops and everything you would require to prepare a delicious home-cooked meal, to be enjoyed in the charming dining room next door. You can relax in the sitting room, enjoying the warmth of the woodburner on a chilly evening, and during the summer months, the elegant sun room is a wonderful place to gather your thoughts, overlooking the patio at the rear of the house, creating harmony with the outdoors. Climb the stairs to the first floor where you will find the three bedrooms and the main bathroom. The enclosed patio enjoys a great deal of sunshine throughout the day and makes a pleasant area to sit with an evening drink before heading out to sample one of the many pubs and restaurants in the town. Take a stroll around Winchcombe town centre which is steeped in history in an AONB, with many individual shops selling art, crafts and local specialist food. Spend a day at Sudeley Castle, Cotswold Farm Park, home to Adam Henson from Countryfile or one of the numerous National Trust properties in the area. This charm-filled cottage is ideally located for a memorable holiday at any time of year.

The town of Winchcombe lies above the River Isbourne, midway between Cheltenham and Broadway. Visitors can sample an array of local produce in the town's restaurants, wine bars, tea shops and deli's, or stroll around the range of local shops, all located along the three main streets. The town also plays host to music and arts festivals, country shows and farmers’ markets. Guided walks around the town are on offer throughout the summer months, while Winchcombe lies on the intersection of the Cotswold Way, Gloucestershire Way, Warden's Way and Windrush Way, providing ample walking to suit all abilities.

We know the area and love the walks and independent shops. Lovely to come back to a cosy cottage with a wood burner. Well enclosed garden.

Well equipped and warm. Good downstairs space. Nice welcome pack. Reasonable price. Generally clean and tidy but cobwebs in corners and dust on beams etc. One of the beds had lots on long black hairs on the sheet when we pulled back the duvet (so we were not sure if the bed covers had been changed on that bed). We washed it before use! It's an old property so it has creaky floors upstairs (that's ok). Some of the downstairs walls appear to have rising damp (blown plaster and flaky paint). The downstairs shower room was a bit mouldy on the upper walls and the shower head riser was broken (but usable). Water seeped through the wall above the sink when it rained heavily. The patio gate needs some attention, also the imposing bush next to it which restricts access. There was tea and coffee provided in caddies but the coffee was part solidified so it may have been there a while! Not a problem as we used our own. Overall it's a great location but the property needs some investment and TLC.

We would have liked some information for local walks, which there are plenty but nothing in the cottage. The back yard could do with a little bit of time sorting it out which would improve the stay. Some other have said the cottage in general is looking a bit tired which is true.Especially the downstairs shower room floor. But in general we enjoyed our stay.
