Guests say

Field Cottage in Shepton Mallet offers a charming and cosy stay with beautiful surroundings, ideal for dog walking and close to local amenities. Guests appreciate the quiet location, efficient heating, and the presence of a smart TV and Wi-Fi. The cottage's character and the nearby pub add to the pleasant experience.

The cottage was generally found to be very clean by guests. However, there were mentions of mould in the shower and a mouldy smell in one of the kitchen cupboards, which suggests room for improvement in certain areas.

The location is highly praised for its quietness, lovely walks, and proximity to local amenities and places of interest. It is also noted as being dog-friendly with convenient fields nearby.

Guests found the cottage cosy and the heating efficient, but noted issues with small bed sizes, lack of storage, and an overly hot upstairs due to the hot water supply. The comfort level varied among guests.

While the presence of a smart TV and Wi-Fi were positives, there were several complaints about maintenance issues such as a noisy boiler, problematic locks, and a non-functional cooker. These issues indicate that the facilities require attention.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no specific mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts, aside from a mention of a welcome pack that was not to the guests' preference.

About this property

This Grade II, semi-detached, stone cottage believed to have been constructed in 1850 rests down a quiet lane on the edge of the historic town of Shepton Mallet, Somerset. Formerly used for housing brewery workers, this period property was historically two cottages in a terrace of four and provides a characterful stay for four guests and their pooch. Upon arrival, leave the car in one of the off-road parking spaces and head through the front door into your new-home-from-home. Make yourself at home in the sitting room, getting comfortable on the settee and armchairs beside the open fire which stands in a beautiful original fireplace, with a Smart TV to provide entertainment. Head over to the kitchen where you’ll find a range of appliances to assist with home-cooking, including a gas range style cooker with an electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a dishwasher so you won’t have to lift a finger when cleaning up! Serve the fruits of your labour at either the dining table in the living room, or at the kitchen table for a homely feel, toasting to a long-awaited break with your nearest and dearest. The bedrooms are situated upstairs and include a double and a twin, both benefitting from en-suite facilities including a shower room and bathroom. Step outside and take a seat at the bistro table and chairs. Then perhaps take your canine companion for a well-deserved romp in the field to the rear of the property and enjoy the sounds of the trickling brook and birdsong on your way. Nestled just outside of Shepton Mallet’s historic town centre, Field Cottage is perfectly positioned for a rural escape with countryside views, whilst a gentle stroll will bring you to a range of amenities and attractions; seek out some good food in one of the many superb eateries around, take in the eclectic mix of new and old architecture as you pass, or head into town to pick up some produce for a romantic meal back at the cottage, with a number of convenience stores and takeaways to choose from too! When you are ready to explore, venture to the town of Glastonbury, famous for its music festival and medieval sites, or even closer to the beautiful Cathedral city of Wells, whilst those looking to get their steps in can access the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, home to a myriad of walking and cycling routes. Choose Field Cottage and experience the best of this Somerset location.

Shepton Mallet, a historic town, is a charming blend of the old and new, with beautiful old architecture, a weekly market, as well as a range of stores, bars, and restaurants. Shepton Mallet is located between the towns of Evercreech and Doulting in the Mendip foothills, in the centre of the Mendip District. This is a stunning landscape with interesting places to explore and things to do for everyone. The Royal Bath and West Showground is located in Shepton Mallet; here, one of Britain's largest agricultural exhibitions is held each year in May or June, and other other events are hosted all year long. The town is conveniently located between Wells, Glastonbury, and Bath. It is also only a 45-minute drive to various family-friendly sites like Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, and East Somerset Railway. You'd be hard-pressed to find a nicer vacation location, and the delicious local cider makes it the perfect drink after a day of touring this region of Somerset.

The only downside was having to pack up and come home! Pleasantly situated adjacent to a babbling stream, lovely view from the kitchen window. Kitchen fully equipped, comfortable beds, lovely lounge area to relax and the cottage has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Short walk in to tow, just perfect

    Otherwise a lovely property

The location was perfect for us to visit family & it was so quiet, the only noise in the evening was the occasional owl. The girls & I had a wonderful, comfortable week here & would happily stay again. I would say though, if you have a large vehicle like we did, you would struggle to get 2 cars parked due to the low walls.
