The Old Goat Barn at Trout Cottage in Somerset receives high praise for its peaceful location, cleanliness, and the warm welcome provided by hosts Sue and Myles. Guests appreciate the thoughtful welcome packs, the dog-friendly amenities, and the property's convenience for exploring local attractions. The cottage's tranquility and the secure paddock for dogs are frequently mentioned highlights.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as spotless and very clean, indicating a high standard of cleanliness. The presence of air fresheners and a comment about a dog smell suggest a minor issue, but overall, the cleanliness is highly regarded.
The location is praised for its quietness and easy access to local towns and attractions. It is described as peaceful and ideal for walking, with beautiful views and wildlife sightings. However, one review mentions the need for a car to reach Somerton, and another notes difficulty in finding the cottage.
The majority of guests find the cottage comfortable and warm, with a cosy atmosphere. Some guests mention the beds and seating areas positively. However, there are comments about inadequate bedding and a suggestion for a glass shower door for more space, indicating room for improvement.
Facilities are generally well-received, with special mentions of the dog paddock and secure garden. Criticisms include unreliable Wi-Fi, lack of substantial insulation, and suggestions for kitchen improvements. The mixed feedback leads to a slightly lower score.
While many reviews express gratitude for the welcome packs and treats for both guests and dogs, indicating a high level of thoughtfulness, there is not enough information to guarantee that such gifts are provided consistently to all guests. Therefore, a score cannot be accurately assigned.

Old Goat Cottage exceeded our expectations. From the welcome and goodies from Sue on our arrival, the peace, tranquility, peace throughout our stay, to the bag of cooking apples Sue let me pick from her tree on our day of leaving, the whole experience was fantastic. The cottage is a great location, with 25 minutes drive from 4 national trust sites and also RNAS Yeovilton ( great visit). Just over a mile outside Sommerton, which has everything you need from chemist, chippy, co-op & bakers, but also just a 20 minute drive from fleet if you want larger stores. Fantastic owner, fantastic place. Will return to de-stress again in the future. Highly recommend.
