About this property

Gather friends, family and four-pawed pals for a break at this beautiful Grade-II listed property. Dating from the 1600s, the converted country house hotel is a great base for adventures amid the Quantock Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty. The vibrant village of Nether Stowey, which has welcoming pubs and local shops, is 1.5 miles from the doorstep. Once home to poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, whose cottage is now owned by the National Trust, the village is the starting point for the 51-mile Coleridge Way which leads to Lynmouth on the northern edge of Exmoor. Postcard-pretty villages and heritage attractions punctuate this protected area, with must-see sites including fossil-hunting on Kilve Beach (4 miles), Watchet with its harbour (9 miles), and Dunster Castle (14.5 miles). Catch a train from Bishops Lydeard (9.5 miles) along the historic steam railway line to the seaside resort Minehead, or you could follow one of the many coastal paths which offer dramatic cliff-top walks.

Inside a traditionally warm welcome awaits as the light and airy entrance hall leads into a lounge with a choice of sofas, a huge Smart TV, and the original hotel bar – perfect for functions or drinks with friends. Head in another direction from the hall and into the dining room which can comfortably seat 17; the updated kitchen has all the appliances you’ll need to cater for a large party and there is plenty of storage space in the larder, but for total time off you can pre-book professional catering directly with the owners. There is also a shower room and two separate WCs on the ground floor. Head upstairs to choose from seven of the nine en-suite bedrooms. The master bedroom has a beautiful four-poster bed with an ensuite bathroom with a separate bath and shower and a sofa bed sleeping a further 2 guests. A king-size room also has an en-suite bathroom with a separate bath and shower and a sofa bed sleeping a further guest comfortably. There are a further three king-size bedrooms, one double room, and one single, all with en-suite shower rooms. A further two bedrooms, both with super-king-size zip-and-link beds which can be made into twins on request, each have en-suite shower rooms and are located on the ground floor, with their own external access. All nine bedrooms here have their own Smart TV.

This remarkable holiday home has ample parking to the front, while at the rear a few steps lead to a private enclosed garden with four access gates, outside seating, and a charcoal BBQ. Beyond, a few steps lead to a private outdoor swimming pool which is open from June to the end of September, plus a hot tub and five-person sauna for year-round chill-out sessions. A detached holiday cottage is situated to the side of this main residence and guests of both share the use of a games barn and a 4.5-acre lawned garden surrounded by woodland. Wander to the top of the shared garden for far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside and across the Bristol Channel to the Welsh coast. If you’d like to stay here with a larger group, the smaller property sleeps a further 8+2 guests.
