Anchorage is a well-regarded cottage in Watchet, Somerset, praised for its cleanliness, stunning sea views, and prime location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living spaces, and the unique 'net loft' with its relaxing atmosphere. While some guests mentioned issues with mattresses and a desire for festive decorations or welcome packs, the overall sentiment is positive, with many visitors returning and recommending the property.
The property consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, with numerous guests describing it as one of the cleanest places they've stayed. The dedicated cleaning team is commended for their efforts, contributing to the overall positive experience.
The location is highly valued by guests for its proximity to local amenities, the harbour, and beaches. The stunning sea views and ease of access to surrounding attractions like Exmoor and Devon are frequently highlighted as highlights of the property's location.
While many guests find the property comfortable and well-equipped, there are several mentions of uncomfortable mattresses and low ceilings that could be problematic for taller individuals. These issues have affected the comfort score, despite the overall positive feedback on the property's amenities.
The property is generally well-regarded for its facilities, including high-end appliances and a well-equipped kitchen. However, some guests have noted maintenance issues such as peeling paint and the need for sharper knives, which slightly impacts the facilities score.
While some guests mentioned the lack of Christmas decorations or a welcome pack, these are not consistent across reviews, and it is not clear if such amenities are typically provided. Therefore, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness based on the available information.
This Victorian fisherman's cottage is situated beside the beach in the heart of Watchet. With fantastic views over the beach as far as Wales, it is a smart cottage for families or friends. The courtyard has a very special feature: stairs which take you up into the old net drying loft which is now a comfortable look-out with amazing Bristol Channel views and comfy seats for watching TV or playing on the PlayStation 3. From the pavement, you enter the main cottage with its charming sitting room with dining area and well-equipped kitchen. Head up the steep stairs to a double bedroom with big bathroom, and then up more stairs to two charming bedrooms under the eaves. At the back is the courtyard, which was once a hub of Victorian activity, but is now enclosed and partly covered and has a wet room shower and WC. From here you can go through stable doors to a footpath which you share with the neighbour and your own terrace above the beach, a lovely place to sit in the sun and enjoy drinks or meals at the picnic table. The shops, restaurants and pubs of friendly little Watchet are just 100 yards from this cottage, or watch boating life in the harbour marina where Coleridge is said to have met the ancient mariner. You can enjoy fishing trips to catch your supper or take a nostalgic trip on the wonderful steam railway to Minehead. With a little beach here and another sandy beach at Blue Anchor Bay, plus the Quantock Hills nearby, there's plenty of opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. Anchorage really is a wonderful base for the best of Somerset's lovely attractions.
Watchet is a delightful, small Somerset harbour town with a maritime history going back over two millennia, where visitors may enjoy the variety of quaint shops on offer and watch the boats in the marina.

Cottage had everything we needed. Spent hours sat looking out over the sea. Watchet itself is a real treat, a number of pubs, bars and eateries and the friendliest people who all stopped for a chat. Great location to explore from, we loved Dunster and it's castle, Lynmouth and Lynton and Minehead as well as fossil beach nearby.

Everything that was promised was there and more. Loved the net loft as a hideaway with great views out to sea. Original quainess of the building maintained with modern twists.
Andrea
We all enjoyed the loft space and looking out to sea
