The Cottage in Watchet is a well-loved property with a prime location near the harbour, appreciated for its spaciousness and suitability for families and pets. The enclosed garden and the view of the marina are particular highlights. Guests have found the property to be a comfortable base for exploring the area, despite noting some areas in need of updating and maintenance.
Most guests found The Cottage clean and tidy upon arrival, with a few noting areas that could benefit from deeper cleaning or attention, such as windows and the balcony. The overall impression is of a well-kept property, though improvements could enhance this perception.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to the harbour, shops, and local amenities, making it an ideal spot for guests. The convenience and charm of the area contribute to a positive experience.
Guests generally found the property comfortable, with ample space and suitable facilities for families and disabled guests. Some reviews suggest that the furniture could be updated for enhanced comfort.
While the property is appreciated for its spaciousness and amenities, several reviews mention the need for maintenance and updates, particularly in the bathrooms. Issues with heating and plumbing were also noted, indicating room for improvement in this category.
There are mentions of a welcome tray with tea, coffee, and biscuits, which guests appreciated. However, as not all reviews reference such gestures and to ensure expectations are managed, it is noted that these thoughtful touches, while delightful, are not guaranteed.
This traditional, detached cottage is situated in the heart of Watchet, on the North Somerset coast. It is set within a conservation area and, enjoying views over the harbour, this comfortable cottage is in a convenient and beautiful part of the village with easy access to shops and cafés, ideal for families seeking a relaxing holiday by the sea. The sitting room and separate dining room have beautiful wooden floors, which are both practical and stylish. The sitting room is ideal all year round, with its woodburner for cosy winter evenings and French doors which lead out into the garden. The fitted kitchen is well equipped and there is a door leading to the back garden and parking area. The ground floor double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and most of the first floor bedrooms have views over the marina, one with a balcony and outdoor furniture. For extra space and convenience, there is a second sitting room upstairs with views out to sea. Outside this lovely cottage, there is an enclosed garden with a barbecue where you can unwind with a cup of coffee whilst planning the next days activities, or dine alfresco. Take a gentle stroll from this lovely cottage down to the harbour and quaint shops or, for the more energetic, there are plentiful walks along the coastline towards the seaside village of Blue Anchor and its long promenade lined with fishermen. A short drive to the medieval village of Dunster is certainly worthwhile, with its cobbled streets abundant with cafes and gift shops. The popular resort of Minehead, with golden sandy beaches and plenty of activities on the traditional sea front is, again, only a short drive away. This spacious cottage by the marina offers a unique stay for families and friends.
Watchet is a delightful, small Somerset harbour village with a maritime history going back over two millennia, where visitors may enjoy the variety of quaint shops on offer and watch the boats in the marina. Watchet attracts railway enthusiasts from all around as The West Somerset Railway, twenty miles of preserved steam railway, passes through Watchet, and continues through stunning scenery to the coastal town of Minehead, approximately 9 miles away.

It is very well equipped and comfortable. However, there should be some warning as to just how narrow Esplanade Lane is at its entrance. This is not helped by the concrete blocks placed outside other properties and makes it almost impossible to use in a large car or SUV.

The house and location are lovely A few small tweaks and itâd be perfect Kitchen was very well equipped and great for making food with everything needed Main bedroom could do with some more furniture for storage and the bed is very squeaky but very comfortable Twin rooms both great and ideal for our family

However, it is my first and last in this house. I'll explain the reasons. From the get go this potentially beautiful house looks tired and unloved inside and out! The greenery outside in the photo is now dead and due for removal due to the damage it causes (explained by the owner Jackie). The balcony off the main bedroom is unsightly and unloved and may even be unsafe! Outside furniture looks old and sad! We must have been the first people staying for months due to the damp smell especially downstairs. No deep cleaning, webs on ceilings. Very damp downstairs double room - no windows to air the room ONLY glass doors. One door only can be kept open on a door chain. Not safe at night esp if any vermin around!! We had very hot weather and had to keep the bedroom door closed to keep the dog out. We also had two big issues (one potentially serious due to gas and no hot water) which were resolved by day 4. Luckily we were staying 14 nights! The WiFi (talk talk) was non existent and despite all efforts (and service call out again on day 4) be warned still remains poor. Suggest change of provider may resolve this! The outside is overgrown, especially the car park area and back gate passage area. The recycle buckets all around the back door will attract vermin. Proper storage recommended for these. Owner Jackie very attentive and apologetic for the gas and WiFi. Spouse Gary attended due to the gas issue and realised it required more than their weak efforts to resolve (day 4 remember!!). Over priced at nearly 3 and half thousand for two weeks. It is my firm opinion this property does not carry the Sykes values and should be removed from their catalogue until they have inspected it.
