Guests say

Blue Buoy Cottage in Brixham offers breathtaking views and a well-equipped, spacious setting. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, stunning vistas from the main rooms, and the proximity to the town centre. The decking area is a highlight for alfresco dining, though some noted it can be slippery when wet. The property's charm and location make it a desirable choice for a holiday stay.

The property is generally clean with some guests noting it was tidy upon arrival. However, a few guests mentioned the need for a deeper clean, particularly in the outside areas and with some kitchenware. The settees were described as tatty and in need of replacement.

The cottage boasts a stunning location with exceptional harbour views and a tranquil environment. It is conveniently close to the town centre, though the hillside position and steps may challenge those with mobility issues. Parking can be tricky, especially during peak season.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the house cosy, with spacious rooms adding to the comfort. However, some guests noted that the attic bedroom is less comfortable due to the roof space and that the beds could be more comfortable overall.

The property is equipped with essential facilities, but several guests reported maintenance issues such as a continuous ignition spark on the gas hob, a broken lamp, and a non-functioning wood burner. The provision of cleaning materials and a hoover or broom was also suggested.

While guests have not specifically mentioned gifts, they have suggested that the inclusion of items such as dishwasher tabs, washing machine tabs, and bin bags would be thoughtful touches. As there is no direct mention of gifts, a score cannot be provided.

About this property

Blue Buoy Cottage is a wonderful property dating back to the 1800’s and is situated in the quaint fishing port of Brixham. The accommodation is over four floors with fantastic Sea views enjoyed from each level overlooking the fish market, marina, breakwater and across the bay to Torquay.

As you enter this charming period property into the spacious sitting room you are drawn to the stunning sea views from the French doors which open up onto a decked balcony. There is also a woodburning stove making this property ideal for breaks at any time of year.

A staircase leads down to the large kitchen and dining room. A fabulous social space to sit and dine after a day out exploring the nearby Berry Head Napoleonic Forts. Bi-folding doors open up onto a large decked terrace, an ideal spot to sit and relax over a glass of wine taking in the exceptional views over this fishing port. There is also a shower room with large walk in cubicle, wc and washbasin located on this level.

The three bedrooms are located on the upper floors of the property. The main bedroom features a double bed with French doors opening onto a Juliet balcony. Bedroom Two has a double bed and the third bedroom is located on the top floor and has two single zip and link beds (can be made into a superking on request). Please note that this bedroom is located up a narrow staircase and has limited head height due to the sloping ceilings and therefore might not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. All the bedrooms also have TVs. There is also a family bathroom on the first floor with a bath, shower over, wc and wash hand basin.

The harbour, shops and restaurants are all within a 5 minute walk from the property. Enjoy a stroll around this wonderful fishing port and watch the trawlers heading out to sea for the days catch, explore the Golden Hind or take a walk along the South West Coast Path to St Marys Bay and Beach.

Blue Buoy Cottage provides an ideal location for you and your family to relax and enjoy your holiday within the English Riviera.

Brixham is a working fishing harbour located on the southern side of Torbay, the area known as The English Riviera, famed for its sunny mild climate all year round. The focal point of the harbour is a life size replica of The Golden Hind, Sir Francis Drake’s ship. The prettiest part of Brixham has small cottages in hilly narrow winding lanes leading to the harbour where all the activity is centred. Home to Britain’s largest fishing fleet which regularly lands their catch in the harbour, Brixham fish market sells to major restaurants in the UK. Brixham is the ideal destination for a traditional holiday with many family attractions around Torbay including two Blue Flag beaches, Paignton Zoo and many regattas and maritime events throughout the year. There are a host of safe cycle trails in the area, the South West Coastal Path and some of the best golf courses in the region. A good mix of relaxation or action, to suit all ages, where you are never far from the sea.

The property is on 4 floors with quite a few steps that I would not recommend to elderly or infirm but it kept us fit, as did the 130 steps up from the town! No complaints, just a requirement to take ones time and be careful as its quite dodgy if its been raining. We liked the house and facilities but felt it could’ve been cleaner, as we spent the first few hours scrubbing the grease off all of the kitchen door handles, oven, fridge and microwave: there was no cleaning wipes to use, but luckily, we had brought some with us. The decking is a bit precarious, its suffered with damp and the lack of exposure to the air and sun. It could do with a good clean, as does the whole of the ‘outdoor area’. Best thing about this property is the view, but can’t really think of any other redeeming features that would attract me back, which is a shame as with a bit of attention to cleanliness and a tidy up, it would be lovely.

Amazing view of the harbour and very quiet Definitely worked off tea walking back up the hill/steps but worth it. We didn't try and park in the road but used the long stay car park which was just short walk down the hill by the fish market.

Had all necessary facilities but the house needs a thorough clean, the settees are filthy and tatty and need to go to the tip..
