Guests say

Hearthstone East Cottage is a characterful and comfortable property with a rich history, appreciated for its quirky charm and lovely garden. It offers a good base for exploring South Devon and is within walking distance of Brixham Harbour. Guests have enjoyed the cosy atmosphere, the well-equipped kitchen, and the thoughtful touches like decorations during festive seasons.

While many guests found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained, there were some concerns about general cleanliness, with reports of cobwebs and dust. Some guests mentioned that cutlery and floors could have been cleaner, and one noted that the bins outside were full upon arrival.

The cottage is well-regarded for its location, being in close proximity to Brixham Harbour and local attractions. It is also mentioned as a good base for exploring South Devon. However, some guests noted the busy road nearby.

Guests have praised the comfort of the beds and the cosy living spaces. The cottage's historical charm adds to the comfort factor, although some guests mentioned low ceilings and steep stairs as potential discomforts for taller individuals and those with mobility issues.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a particularly well-furnished kitchen and multiple outdoor seating areas. However, some guests suggested improvements such as additional stair gates for toddlers, a non-slip mat for the bath, and more frying pans. There were also minor maintenance issues mentioned, such as loose paving slabs in the garden.

Many guests felt the owners were thoughtful, noting the cottage was decorated for Christmas and the provision of a welcome pack. While gifts like chocolate cake were appreciated, it is important to note that such personal touches, though delightful, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Nothing negative at all except I am well over 6 feet in height and spent most of my time stooping to avoid head contact! Lovely features and comfy beds. We found the up and down steep stairs for the bathrooms a bit daunting at night but we would stay there again in a heartbeat nonetheless. Thanks for the choccy cake!!!

Peaceful setting on the outskirts of lovely Brixham and just a 15 minute walk down to the harbour and town centre with coffee shops, food, drink and visitor facilities. Thanks to the owners for the recommendation to visit Berry Head - well worth the walk. Make sure you have a cream tea in the cafe! Very dog friendly and a secure rear garden was a bonus and added to the enjoyment of this lovely place.

It is steeped in history and there is something interesting everywhere you look. The garden is beautiful, right up my street. The owners have clearly spent a lot of time and effort making this great for holidaymakers too with everything you would need. The beds were super comfy, I haven’t slept so well in years. 3 different generations of family stayed during this trip and we all loved it. Will definitely be returning. It’s also in a great spot just a short walk to the harbour and has a great park for kids just across the road.
