Guests say

Wisteria Cottage in Urchfont is a period property blending old-world charm with modern comforts. Guests have praised its immaculate presentation, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped kitchen. The idyllic location offers peaceful surroundings and local walks. A welcome hamper adds a special touch, though its contents may vary. Some minor issues were noted, but overall, the cottage provides a delightful stay.

The cottage is consistently described as immaculately presented and very well fitted out, indicating a high level of cleanliness throughout the property.

The cottage is situated in the quintessential English village of Urchfont, with guests appreciating the peaceful surroundings, local walks, and proximity to a community shop, post office, and pub.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy furnishings and modern bathrooms. However, one review mentioned a lack of wardrobe in one bedroom and issues with underfloor heating, slightly affecting the comfort score.

The property boasts modern kitchen and bathroom fittings, though some guests noted the absence of a microwave, outside lights at the back, and a power shower in one bathroom. These points suggest room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.

While guests were impressed with the welcome hamper, there is no consistent mention of gifts or additional thoughtful touches that could be evaluated. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score for thoughtfulness, and guests should note that such amenities are subject to change.

About this property

Wisteria Cottage is a late 18th century thatched cottage set in a small hamlet on the edge of a picturesque Wiltshire village. Nestled between Salisbury Plain and the Vale of Pewsey, this is a perfect location from which to explore the tranquil surroundings of the North Wessex Downs.

The beautifully renovated cottage is set in an enchanting garden teeming with wisteria and roses. Inglenook fireplaces, exposed beams and polished wooden floors are the backdrop to a charming home that is spacious, welcoming and beautifully furnished. Antiques mix with the contemporary furniture to create a setting that is relaxed, comfortable and stylish. This dual aspect cottage, with views over the open fields to the woods beyond, is bright and laid out with a spacious sitting room with a wood burning stove, a large dining room with an inglenook fireplace and several quiet areas, perfect for relaxing with a good book. The fully equipped kitchen comes with a Rangemaster stove, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and drinks fridge.

Upstairs are two large comparable bedrooms; one with a spacious en-suite shower room, the other with a creatively designed en-suite bathroom with a free-standing roll top bath and separate walk-in shower. The beds are hand-made in England and the linens are the finest cottons with natural feather duvets and pillows.

Outside, the south and east facing terrace is perfect for an early morning breakfast in the sunshine; whilst the terrace at the front of the house is an ideal tranquil setting to enjoy the evening sunsets across the fields opposite. Within walking distance of Wisteria Cottage is The Lamb, offering good food and local ales, whilst the farm shop is just a short stroll across the fields on public footpaths, just behind the cottage. A multitude of glorious walks along footpaths and through woods are steps away, and a little further afield are the iconic Wiltshire white horses carved into the nearby hillsides. The nearest ones are the Devizes white horse, created in 1999 for the Millennium, and the Marlborough white horse created in 1804. Bath, Salisbury and many nearby market towns are all within easy reach.

A lovely cottage, beautifully furnished, well equipped, and extremely comfortable.

The cottage was beautiful and would recommend it to friends but it is missing the 5 star as there were one or two niggles. The shower in the bedroom without the bath definitely needs to be a power shower. There were no soaps etc supplied and the host say that most people prefer their own but they still should be provided. The kitchen is perfect apart from there is no microwave, kitchen roll, tin opener or scissors (very useful for cutting the rind off bacon when making a full English breakfast for my friends). Also the food that was left complementary for our arrival was not to the usual standard. It should always be artisan bread not just o loaf from a supermarket. Other than that perfect.
