Offering a restorative stay in rural Suffolk, this magnificent cottage is surrounded by ample walking opportunities along the coast and in the countryside. A perfect bolthole for two, the property offers cosy and comfortable interiors for that much-needed R&R in between walks, bike rides and cultural tours of local towns. The property, which is also dog friendly, sits on the fabulous Shotley Peninsula, bordered by the River Stour and the River Orwell, both offering rich maritime history to be explored along its banks. The area is a sailor’s hot spot, with both the rivers and Alton Water reservoir (5 miles) in close reach.
Step inside this traditional red brick cottage to find charming country aesthetics and farmhouse appeal. Everything’s designed on one level with a lovely lounge/kitchen/diner at its centre. This shared space is warmed by a wood burner at one side, complete with cosy seating and a TV around it for staying entertained whilst warming your bones. Along the hallway, find an attractive double bedroom with delightful views to wake up to each morning and a bathroom. To complete the property’s offering, step into the garden where pretty lawn space is furnished with a bistro set, inviting you to bask in the sunshine with your first or last drink of the day.
A hidden gem that you simply must visit throughout your stay, nearby Harkstead Beach (2 miles) invites wild swimming on the River Stour with a pretty shingle shore to relax on when the weather is right. For those looking for livelier adventure, Alton Water Centre (4.5 miles) invites you to try your hand at activities including sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding on the reservoir. In the opposite direction, Pin Mill is an appealing National Trust spot just 1 mile away, complete with panoramic sea views and peaceful nature trails through woodlands and heathlands.

This is a beautiful location Description says ‘magnificent cottage’ poorly equipped, dirty bathroom with black mould very sad worn accommodation Poor value and poor standard
Mrs Rogers
Great location, short walk to Pin Mill, which was fab, bus stop and local shop etc Well-equipped kitchen with microwave, washing machine, toaster and coffee maker, quiet garden (we think there were owls in the oak tree!), backing onto fields so great access for dog-walks. Decor was a little dull but all very clean and tidy. Compact but comfy except for the bed which was not comfortable sadly.
Mrs Giddings
Whilst we had a really nice break, loved the location of the cottage and would certainly consider returning - we did feel that for the money we expect a higher level of cleanliness and better general state of repair.
