This small market town in Suffolk boasts pretty half-timbered houses, characterful sloping roofs and is home to the famous painter Thomas Gainsborough. Take a stroll along Gainsborough Street and down a little alleyway where you will find Gainsborough House, his birthplace and where he resided for many of his younger years. In this modest, late-medieval brick house is a marvellous collection of some of his finest work to be admired. Resting in the Stour Valley in an Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty, the surrounding majestic countryside of Sudbury is what inspired most of his paintings.
