Ploughman's Cottage in Eye, Suffolk, is a charming and well-maintained property with a cosy atmosphere, featuring a wood burner and comfortable beds. The enclosed garden is appreciated by pet owners, and the village of Hoxne offers a friendly local pub and scenic walks. Some guests noted the narrow spiral staircase and proximity to a busy road as drawbacks, while others found the cottage's character and location ideal for a peaceful retreat or exploring Suffolk.
Guests consistently praised the cottage for its cleanliness, noting it was very clean and tidy upon arrival with fresh and amazing smelling linen. The property's upkeep in terms of hygiene seems to be of a high standard.
The cottage is situated in a picturesque village with friendly locals and good amenities. However, some guests found the traffic noise to be a concern, as the property is located on a road used by heavy vehicles. The proximity to local attractions and walks was appreciated.
The beds were frequently described as exceptionally comfortable, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, the spiral staircase posed challenges for some guests, and the proximity of the toilet to the bath was noted as inconvenient. The heat during summer and the noise from traffic also affected comfort for some.
The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, but guests reported issues with lighting, appliance operation, and a lack of certain kitchen utensils. The presence of a wood burner was a highlight, though some guests struggled with the hob and heating controls.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

A compact property in a very pretty Suffolk village providing a good base to visit and explore what the area has to offer

Overall, the cottage description was fair but I feel the trials of the circular staircase were not emphasized enough. It was treacherous, especially as it was painted with gloss - don't use in socks or stockinged feet! I had the adjacent curtains off the wall at one point. The toilet is tight between the roll top bath and wall. Anyone of a wide girth might struggle. It's a nice cottage in a lovely village but certainly not for the infirm, elderly or anyone with weight or mobility issues.
