The Cornerstone is a well-received cottage in Southwold, consistently praised for its cleanliness, prime location, and cosy comfort. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the property's proximity to the town centre and seafront. The thoughtful touches, such as a welcome hamper, add to the charm of this holiday rental, making it a highly recommended stay for visitors.

Guests frequently commend the cottage for its exceptional cleanliness, describing it as 'spotlessly clean' and 'perfectly clean on arrival'. The high standard of cleanliness contributes significantly to the positive experiences reported.

The location is highly praised for being central, with easy access to the high street, beach, and local amenities. The convenience of the location is a standout feature in the reviews.

The cottage is repeatedly described as cosy, comfortable, and well-equipped, providing a welcoming atmosphere. However, a few guests mentioned the beds being low and mattresses soft, which slightly affects the comfort score.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident through mentions of a welcome hamper and other considerate touches. While these are warmly received, it is politely noted that such gestures are at the hosts' discretion and may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

With views overlooking Bartholomew Green and St Edmunds Church, The Cornerstone is an ideal retreat for those looking to stay in the centre of the seaside town of Southwold.

This end terrace Victorian cottage has been beautifully restored into a fabulous des res. What can we say… think Victorian fireplaces and wide sash windows paired with English oak floors, wood burning stoves, recessed spotlights and 21st century amenities and you’ve got the picture.

The galley style kitchen is stylish and well fitted out with a cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The adjoining dining area has a farmhouse style table and six chairs, two seater sofa and wood burning stove… perfect for curling up and having a little ‘me’ time. The separate sitting room has comfortably furnished with a couple of sofas  TV and a second wood burning stove. The large walk in shower is also on the ground floor. Steep stairs from front hall (with handrail on both sides) lead to the two spacious bedrooms, one double and a twin with views over Bartholomew Green and St Edmunds Church. The family bathroom is also on the first floor with a bath and power shower over. Outside the cottage has a pretty courtyard garden with enamel table and chairs.

The Cornerstone lies off the High Street in Southwold so guests can stroll to the many delightful shops, delis, cafes and restaurants in the town - perfect for a coffee and cake while indulging in a little retail therapy.

The whole coastline beckons… it’s just a short walk to the sea with the picturesque pastel beach huts. Stroll along the upper promenade, beautiful at any time of year. A visit to Southwold wouldn’t be complete without heading off to the pier, dating back to the 1900’s, it was originally built as a landing point for the steamships which use to stop off at the town. Don’t forget to visit the lighthouse - this distinctive landmark at the centre of the town has been guiding vessels into the historical harbour since the late 1800’s.

The Cornerstone is a great base to get out and about, and with the beach close by, it’s perfect for families.

Thank you to the hosts of Cornerstone cottage who were lovely and, who provided a wonderful, warm, comfortable and cosy cottage. Plenty of space and immaculately clean. Great central location. We would definitely like to return.

An extremely clean, cared for and all the facilities that you might need on a short to even longer term stay. Highly commendable cottage.

An absolutely beautiful cottage in the heart of Southwold. Fantastically equipped and ideally located for exploring all the town has to offer. The owner really has gone above and beyond to make this a perfect home from home. Spotlessly clean and with the added bonus of a much appreciated welcome hamper too. We would definitely recommend to others and plan to return ourselves too.
