Guests say

The Byre is a well-received cottage, praised for its stunning location, cleanliness, and peacefulness. Guests appreciate the warm welcome and thoughtful touches from the owner, as well as the property's suitability for walking and exploring the Shropshire Hills. While most reviews are positive, a few note areas for improvement in facilities and maintenance.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as clean and well-kept, with several reviews specifically mentioning its cleanliness. This indicates a high standard of hygiene and care for the property.

The location is frequently highlighted as stunning and ideal for walkers, offering beautiful views and tranquility. It is remote, which is appreciated by those seeking peace, though it may not suit everyone.

Comfort is generally rated highly, with guests finding the cottage cosy and well-appointed. However, a few guests mentioned the firmness of the bed and pillows as a personal discomfort, slightly affecting the score.

Facilities are well-regarded, especially for walking and relaxation. Some guests, however, have pointed out issues with Wi-Fi and kitchen equipment, suggesting room for improvement in this category.

Many guests mention the thoughtful extras provided by the owner, such as wine, chocolates, and flowers, which contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. It should be noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are at the owner's discretion and may not be a consistent offering.

About this property

A stone-built, semi-detached barn conversion on a working farm, in a peaceful location at the foot of the Long Mynd Hills near the village of Wentnor, 12 miles from Church Stretton. Attractively furnished in a traditional style, the property is brimming with character, including exposed beams, wall timbers and a four poster bed. There is also a pretty patio garden with spectacular views of the Long Mynd. A few hundred yards away, the Adstone Walk on the Shropshire Way is a walker's paradise while the famous Stiperstones and Wenlock Edge are nearby. The amenities of Church Stretton, medieval Ludlow and Bishop's Castle are within easy reach, as are numerous attractions including the Ironbridge museums and many National Trust properties.

The village of Wentnor lies on a ridge to the west of the Long Mynd, with good views in all directions. It is an attractive village, situated on a location that can be traced back to Saxon times. The church of St. Michael and All Angels is at one end of theridge, and there are spectacular views to be had from there, looking towards the west from the churchyard. Carved into an outside wall of the church is an inverted 'face'. Inside is a tombstone known as the ‘Hurricane Tombstone'; this is in memory of a family who lost their lives in the nearby hamlet of Asterton during a hurricane in 1772. Wetnor is also situated close to many other historic Shropshire attractions. The Shropshire Hills are littered with Roman and Iron Age settlements, perfect destinations for those who want to mix a bit of history with a scenic walk. Church Stretton is only a few miles away and offers a beautiful example of a modern medieval village. With outdoor pursuits, such as fishing and mountain-biking, in abundance, Wentnor is a haven for those looking to get away from it all.

Mr Middleton was very welcoming and we had a peaceful warm and cosy stay. Everything was as described not disappointed at all. Fully recommend if you love peace and quiet and beautiful countryside.

The many goodies were greatly appreciated. The owner lives next door and has a wealth of information when needed.

Bob the owner was brilliant. (We had a little problem With the boiler). The instructions on how to get there from Church Stretton were sketchy to say the least! Infact Bob had to come and look for us to guide us in. It may be an idea to advise people that it is miles away from nowhere? Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed it.
