Rudyard Lake lies in a thickly wooded hillside area of the Staffordshire Moorlands. The 2.5 mile-long lake, part of which is a conservation area, offers many activities including sailing, boating and fishing, as well as many lovely walks and cycle routes and is a haven for wildlife, flora and fauna. There is a small shop and cafe on the lake, as well as a steam railway, a sailing club which offers courses for all abilities, and a hotel with a friendly bar and restaurant. Just 3 miles away is the hillside market town of Leek, known as 'The Queen of the Moorlands'.
