Nestled into the countryside of Luddenden Valley, Ludd Brook Cottage is an idyllic rural base for a small family or group of friends looking to explore West Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales. With a backdrop of woodland and countryside views and the tranquil sound of the brook running by, be welcomed into Ludd Brook Cottage, a quaint cottage with a spacious sitting room with woodburning stove and roof beams. The cottage kitchen houses a great many amenities to cater to your culinary needs, tucked away into contemporary purple cupboards. Freshen up in the shower room before settling down into one of the two bedrooms, choosing between a double with TV and feature stone fireplace and a compact single. Make the most of the evening sunshine in the rear garden, where a delightful terraced space offers seating in a gazebo or beside the fire pit and barbecue. Here you can often watch deer in the fields behind the gazebo. Luddenden is a village in the Yorkshire Dales, which offers a local shop where you can stock up on essentials, as well as a traditional 17th century Grade II listed inn and former haunt of Branwell Bronte. From here, head over to Halifax, where there is a greater number of amenities and attractions, including local museums, Manor Heath Park and Shibden Park and Hall (home of the 19th century diarist Anne Lister better known as BBC’s Gentleman Jack). The property is a short walk from Jerusalem Farm nature reserve and campsite and within reach of a great selection of countryside walks, including Stoodley Pike, The Coiners Walk in Cragg Vale and the National Trust’s Hardcastle Craggs. Guests can also venture into the incredible scenery of the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District National Park, enjoying the many scenic walks, mountain biking trails and climbing opportunities available. Enjoy a countryside escape to West Yorkshire with a stay at Ludd Brook Cottage.
Luddenden is a conservation village in Calderdale, close to Hebden Bridge. The community is first mentioned in 1284, and in 1375 a corn mill was moved from Warley Town to exploit the Luddenden Brook. Nearby, the attractive town of Hebden Bridge is the home to the picturesque Rochdale Canal and a delightful Victorian railway station. The town of Mytholmroyd is an easy drive away, the birthplace of Poet Laureate Ted Hughes, and famous for the Cragg Vale Coiners. This is excellent walking country, with the National Trust Hardcastle Crags and the Pennine Way, plus the area hosted the Tour De France in 2014. Enjoy scenic drives and cycling across the moors, whilst nearby Haworth boasts the Parsonage Museum commemorating the famous Bronte family who lived there. The area is also a must for steam railway enthusiasts who will enjoy the thriving Worth Valley Railway, whilst the highly-acclaimed Eureka Museum in Halifax is noted for its unique Piece Hall and its Victorian architecture.

We really enjoyed the books, games and dvds that had been left for guests. The sofas and beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed evenings sat around the wood burning stove. The garden to the rear looked lovely but we didn't use it to sit out in as our stay was in November. The cottage is extremely quiet, there is no road noise at all. There is a rather bumpy cobbled road you need to drive down to access the cottage and the front steps and interior staircase are quite steep. There is lots to do in the surrounding area. We loved our stay here and would like to return.

The bed is comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed for cooking. WIFI is really good and Freeview / Netflix is available. Negatives: Sadly, the back garden is scruffy and needs a good tidy up. There are piles of what looks like building materials lying around, and the decking has seen better days - it's really very slippery with moss. I was left with 1/4 of a toilet roll and no washing up liquid. The owner told me that it was my responsibility to buy these things and ensure enough was left for other guests, however, that was not done for me, so their system clearly doesn't work. This was rectified eventually, and one of the owner's family members dropped these items off for me. I'd recommend making it very clear that guests need to bring their own essentials, including loo roll and washing up liquid. I also had to clean up dog mess in the garden and dog wee in the living room from the previous guest. Nothing was done to rectify this, it very much seemed that I wasn't believed when I reported this to Sykes and the owner. Overall, it's a good base for walking and visiting attractions such as Shibden Hall. Perhaps a bit of a tidy up and a better system for leaving guests with the essentials would be useful.
