The parish of Sykehouse is a collection of hamlets split in two by the New Junction Canal, which provides lovely walks along its banks. It is bordered by the beautiful South Yorkshire countryside. The settlement of Sykehouse, known as the Longest Village in Yorkshire, is the largest village within this parish. The settlement, which includes the Grade II listed parish church of the Holy Trinity, has a welcoming tavern called The Old George and a number of other listed structures. Although the tower was constructed in the early 18th century, the church was constructed in 1869 using red brick and in the Gothic Revival style. The Sykehouse Russet apple, assumed to be extinct but later found flourishing in the Doncaster region in 1999, takes its name from the village of Sykehouse, which also serves as the location of the Sykehouse Arena Equestrian Center.

So very comfy. And lovely place to relax. Sarah the host was very hospitable and there was nothing to much trouble for her to help us with. The cottage was well-equipped with all you would need. The bath was great. Comfy bed and a lovely sitting room and kitchen. The dogs were absolute delight. Especially Cookie greeting us each morning for our morning walk. Buddy loved it. Thank you fir letting us stay Sarah, will hopefully see you again.

The bathroom was luxurious with an amazing bath! The height of the ceilings added to the spaciousness of the living room and kitchen. When relaxing in the cottage the large tv provided brilliant viewing of the Olympics. The outside courtyard attached to the cottage was a really good size for our dogs to potter around and it was good to know they were safe and secure. The grounds of the farm gave us plenty of dog walks, one of which led us to the pretty canal where we picked blackberries to make jam. We made friends with the horses on the farm over the field fences and the farm dogs, particularly Cookie, who joined us for our daily walks. The owners couldnât have been more helpful and friendly suggesting the best beaches to visit and helping us with parking. The Country Show in the next village was great and our dogs enjoyed taking part in the fun dog show categories. We visited York, the coast and wildlife reserves. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely rebook.
