The East Riding of Yorkshire, England contains the little ancient market town of Howden. The distance from York to it is around 20 kilometres. The Howden town centre is well conserved, with narrow cobblestone lanes, renovated buildings with some nice shops, ancient coaching inns and delightful tea places, and a small market held every Friday. The Howden town centre is dominated by its stunning Minster. Howden Marsh, a peaceful area for a stroll near the town, has a lake and a few little islands that serve as a haven for wildlife and birds. Within the Vale of York, the town of Pocklington is not too far away. Magnificent Castle Howard, lovely Sledmere House, and of course the city of York are just a few of the well-known landmarks nearby. The city of York doesn't require any recommendations because it is brimming with things to do for tourists, including The Minister, boat rides on the River Ouse, museums, and of course York Races. Beautifully furnished and spotless. Such a quaint little cottage. Loved that we were lower than the road in the livingroom. The beams the full length window in the upstairs hall was beautiful. Howden is a lovely place. The cottage was very central. We had one problem that we had no hot water the first night and no instructions. After googling in the morning and thinking about it (the boiler had run out of water) we managed to fix it. The only other thing and it is an observation and suggestion - the window in upstairs hall is quite dangerous as it opens all the way up. As beautiful as it is it could do with having a safety lock on it to only open so much. I feel that anyone could fall out but especially children as they could reach the opening lock too. I would definitely stay here again and most definitely recommend it.

It's very clean and tidy, with a well thought out layout. The furnishings are quality and comfortable, as are the linens. It is positioned very conveniently for the town amenities, but with the draw back of lots of traffic passing. Being on a corner, the traffic can come scarily close to the lounge at times!! It can be noisy at times. Lack of written instructions for the central heating and other electrical items was a drawback. Thank goodness for Google! The central heating was very noisy and seemed to be on continuously! We actually turned it on to water only as the clanging pipes disturbed our sleep. There was lots of pots and pans, but no ovenable dishes. I couldn't find a tin opener, potato peeler or potato masher! Although there were lots of other cooking utensils. Howden is a lovely town to visit, and we would recommend The Tailor's Chalk for a drink and Minster Fish Bar for a good fish supper!!
