About this property

Situated in Mewith, on the outskirts of the Yorkshire market town of Bentham, you will discover this picturesque, seventeenth century, semi-detached stone cottage. Resting amidst lovely countryside, you can enjoy views towards the iconic Three Peaks, Whernside, Pen-y-Ghent and Ingleborough. Embracing an elevated position above Bentham, with a blend of original period features, this retreat creates a heart-warming place for families or friends to come together and relax. Make the most of the wonderful kitchen/diner, complete with a selection of appliances and seating for four, a nice set-up to discuss plans over a lovely home-cooked meal. Alternatively, set up the table in the dining area with seating for six, where you can create more of an occasion. The lounge will become your night-time escape, enhanced by a wood-burner and exposed beams to set the scene for some well-earned downtime, whether that is watching TV or simply relaxing on the extra-large and comfortable sofa, love seat or armchair with plenty of room for six people. To the first floor lies two pretty bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and pleasant views over the surrounding countryside. These bedrooms share access to a brand new shower room with WC and a sink, newly put in during 2018 with a large modern shower. From the inner hallway, a staircase to the mid-level floor reveals a further very large bedroom a super king-size bed that can be split into two large single beds, and with an additional day bed for relaxing. There is ample storage space, wonderful views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks from your bed, further Velux windows and a feature of a door to an external stone staircase. There is a downstairs bathroom with large bath, a shower over bath, WC and sink that is easily accessed from this master bedroom. Externally, there is a private garden, with a grassed area to the front and back of the property, with views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks from the front of the property, and wonderful views from the rear garden out onto Burns Moor, the start of the Forest of Bowland, an AONB. There is also a gated cobbled courtyard and an open stone garage, and a store room/drying room, great for walking boots and wellies and containing a washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes dryer. When you are not admiring the heart-warming landscape or resting by the tranquil stream, the High Bentham area is threaded with public footpaths and rights of way that are well documented in a local walking guide covering locations such as the River Wenning and the Great Stone of Fourstones, and there are walks from the doorstep including Bentham Heritage Trail. The wonderful Yorkshire Three Peaks are all easily accessible within a 20-minute drive and the town of Hawes is just 40 minutes away via a scenic drive into the dales proper. From there it is a short distance to sites like Bolton Abbey, Bainbridge and Askrigg, home of the tales of Yorkshire vet James Herriot in the TV series "All creatures great and small" and many more. The delights of the Lake District National Park and the coastal scenery of Morecambe Bay are only 40 minutes away by car and there is a local train service, along with local shops and pubs. Not forgetting the 18-hole golf course, appreciated for its views and friendly atmosphere. A getaway for all the family to enjoy.

High Bentham is a busy little town with a weekly cattle market, local shops and services, as well as a good choice of pubs serving food, while the 18-hole golf course is well known for its views and friendly atmosphere. The market towns of Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton and Kendal are all within easy driving distance, making this lovely little town a great holiday base.

Karen and Ryan were very friendly and suggested local places to visit. A nice surprise was the little gifts and a bottle of milk for that important first cuppa after a long journey. The weather was very wet on the Thursday but is was a comfortable place to spend a lazy day. If we visit the area again this cottage will certainly be on our list.
