Enter the three-storey holiday retreat via the grand entrance hall, which features a beautiful, tiled floor and a sparkling chandelier. Kick off your shoes and, from here, head through to the magnificent lounge, with its plush, velvet sofas, roaring open fire, and fabulous period features – the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day in the Dales. The spacious kitchen/diner is full of character, with a striking beamed ceiling, and has all the equipment needed to cater for a large group. Dine here at the informal breakfast table, or gather around the banquet-style table in the dining room for dinner parties and special occasions. Open the patio doors to the courtyard to extend the social space. Tucked away on the ground floor, you’ll find your own private sauna to relax in. Completing the ground floor is a double bedroom and bathroom with an indulgent roll-top bath. On the first floor, you’ll find four gorgeous bedrooms, two of which have en-suite facilities. The main family bathroom is also on this floor, with a double-width Jacuzzi-style bath, mood lighting, and an ornamental fireplace. A staircase leads to the second floor, which houses a spacious bedroom under a vaulted, beamed ceiling. This open-plan loft space has three single beds and a bunk bed suitable for children aged 6+, making it a great, multi-functional room for both families and groups of friends. Completing this floor is an en-suite shower room. Accessed via a separate, spiral staircase from the ground floor is a ‘hidden’ double bedroom with an en-suite shower room and fabulous views of the castle. Outside, enjoy a quiet drink in the walled courtyard garden.

Middleham is an attractive Yorkshire town with a good range of independent shops and eateries. Enjoy a stroll around the town centre – much of which is a conservation area – and admire the beautiful Georgian houses and listed buildings. You can also visit the fascinating ruins of the Norman castle. The town is an epicentre for equine training, and you can watch the horses in action at Middleham Gallops. There are some beautiful walks leading away from the town, taking you up onto the surrounding, heather-clad moorland.
