For a much-needed break, escape to Hutchinson House.

Richmond, the ancient market town at the entrance to Swaledale, stands on a conspicuous hilltop position to the north of the River Swale. Its cobblestone streets and small alleyways, or wynds, are home to over nine centuries of bustling history and distinct personality. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman bastion built in 1071 and famously perched high above the river - the name Richmond comes from the French word 'riche-mont,' which means'strong hill.' Today, there are magnificent walks to be had, such as the Castle Walk, which is a dramatic terrace stroll beneath the castle walls, or a walk along the River Swale, which includes parks, safe paddling spots, and little waterfalls.

.turns out it was the property where we grew up in Richmond with the once family that owned it and where our school friends lived,so quite a nostalgic trip. Only constructive comment we would like to have seen..is angled either plug in or solar lights low down illuminating the shared footpath between the cottages..pretty uneven and very dark..slip or trip hazard resulting in a potentially nasty sprain or brake on lower limb..there were a couple of broken solar lamps..and considering this property was 100 % just need to have these put in place..safeguard the owner and or customers staying at the beautiful cottage..otherwise fantastic and nice touch on arrival with cake and basic refreshments, went down well.

Location is excellent - with an easy few minute walk to many high quality cafes and restaurants. We enjoyed the local circular walks and a visit to the castle too. We would definitely return

Clear instruction on getting in. Our only issue would be with the settee's, as they were really not comfortable on our backs. The wind chime outside did disturb the person in the back bed during the night a little due to the weather The kitchen is in need of a bit of a spruce up but this did not deter from function. Lovely warm house with a nice hamper to start us off.
