The Old Store, 2 Alpine Terrace, is a well-received cottage in Richmond, Yorkshire Dales, appreciated for its comfort, well-equipped kitchen, and prime location for exploring the dales. Guests have enjoyed the property's spaciousness, modern amenities, and the welcoming touch of a bottle of wine.
Most guests found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained, though there were a few mentions of floors not being immaculate and a dirty sponge on arrival. These seem to be isolated incidents rather than a consistent issue.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to local amenities and as a base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. The proximity to shops, pubs, and walking paths adds to the appeal, despite some comments about traffic noise.
Guests have commented positively on the comfortable beds, quality bedding, and the overall spaciousness of the cottage. However, some guests suggested improvements for seating support and noted the steep stairs could be challenging for some.
The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, but there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as a broken kitchen door, a rope handrail, and a lack of wardrobes. These recurring points suggest room for improvement in maintenance.
The provision of a bottle of wine was a thoughtful gesture that several guests appreciated. However, as such gifts are subject to change and not guaranteed, their absence should not be taken as a negative reflection on the property's hospitality.

Reeth, a charming and perennially well-liked village, is tucked between Calver Hill, Fremington Edge, and Harkerside at the northernmost point of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where Arkengarthdale and Swaledale meet. Reeth, which is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with attractive rolling hills and breath-taking views, has a colourful past since it was first settled by the Saxons and has since been recognised as a lead mining town and a centre for hand knitting. The Swaledale Museum, which is situated close to a wide variety of stores, tea cafes, and restaurants, proudly displays both trades. Reeth has three options for historic inns, including the charming Buck Hotel, which is whitewashed like many of the 18th century houses clustered around the triangular village green. Difficult for someone with mobility issues / disability to negotiate. Steps at back door scary. Steps down into kitchen no handrail. Stairs to upper floor difficult as before. No handrail on landing. Limited space in bathroom to accommodate toiletries etc Cleaning not good. Previous occupierâs socks found on floor behind settee.â

The cottage is well equipped and the bed linen, towels etc a high standard which adds to the comfort of your stay. The steps at the front lead directly to the road so may not be great for children but we didnât have an issue with that.

The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay although the dishwasher needs a service as some of the crockery (cups in particular) needed a second hand wash. The beds are comfortable and had a nice choice of bed linen. Also, as mentioned by other guests, the bedrooms donât have wardrobes - just a chest of drawers in the main bedroom. Towels are provided however, if we stayed again we would definitely take our own; as the bath towels are too small and thin. As the house faces the main road it is quite noisy with constant traffic from early morning to well into the evening. In fact, we didnât realise just how much traffic passes through Reeth until we stayed here. Overall, the house is ideally placed to go exploring the Dales as there are plenty of gorgeous walks from the doorstep and lots of places to visit should you prefer to drive or use the Little White Bus.
