Cosy and warm during a chilly autumn week. Quiet location but right in the center of the village. 5 min drive to Pickering. Comfy beds, well equipped kitchen. Large dining area. Sitting room was great to relax in in the evening. Arrived to find delicious scones and bread which was really welcome after a long journey. Strongly recommend as a base to explore North Yorkshire Moors.

It’s well located for exploring the Yorkshire coast and the moors as well as the characterful villages around. The friendly owner Claire met us on arrival having lit the open fire in the lounge (although there is full CH if needed) and she had set out some goodies from the bakery/cafe round the corner (which she also owns). The cottage itself is very clean and beautifully decorated and furnished with plenty of space. Highly recommended.

The owners are so friendly and helpful, their daughter is lovely too. They own the bakery and tearooms. The welcome pacÄ·, fresh bread, baked scones with jam n butter was such a nice touch. We will definitely stay again. Thornton Le Dale is so pretty it was wonderful, we enjoyed lovely walks and going in all the little shops. Had a takeaway from the pizza place that was very good. The Buck Inn staff very friendly we had a nice pint there. We met some very friendly locals too on our walks feeding the ducks. We visited Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey during our stay, 30min drive away. Pickering Castle just down the road and was worth joining English Heritage as a family.
