At any time of year, hikers and wildlife watchers will find Filey, a classic English seaside resort with a welcoming vibe, to be the perfect place to stay. It's a hidden treasure on the coast of Yorkshire. Set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, and Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north, this North East Coast fishing town has been a popular resort since Victorian times. A low headland, Filey Brigg shields Filey Bay and offers excellent sea and bird watching throughout the year. To the south of Filey Bay, in the rspb Reserve at Bempton Cliffs, over 250,000 seabirds make their summer home. Numerous species of seabirds, including gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots, and razorbills, make their nests there. The waters of Filey Bay are a popular feeding ground for gannets. Waders, seabirds, and migrant warblers, finches, and thrushes can all be seen in the Brigg area. Seabirds, seals, porpoises, dolphins, and minke whales are just some of the marine animals that can be spotted in the water near the Brigg. The town itself retains much of its character, down to the unique shops, narrow paths, and ginnels. During the summer, visitors can rent out one of the charming beach chalets that dot the cobble landing and use the slipway where local fishermen keep their boats. Two promenades line the bay's shore, and brass bands perform in the various gardens on Sunday afternoons. Family fun, crazy golf, and candy floss await you in this quaint community. The Filey Dams Nature Reserve is a wetland area where a variety of birds can be seen, including common and rare waders and wildfowl, as well as large gatherings of swallows, sand martins, and house martins in the fall. Similarly, Parish Wood (accessible via Sycamore Avenue) is a hidden gem that is home to a plethora of flora and fauna. Willow warblers, chiffchaffs, blackcaps, and tree sparrows all breed there, and a wide variety of other species, like great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks, are frequently spotted. Birds such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes, and woodcocks rely on Parish Wood for both shelter and food. Scarborough, a larger town just a short drive away, is home to the UK's first and only waterpark of its kind, the Alpamare Waterpark, and a plethora of other attractions and activities for visitors of all ages.

Kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. Great balcony to sit out on and take in the fantastic sea views. Welcome pack was full of treats. Owners friendly and helpful. We would recommend this property for a relaxing break. Brian and Angie October 2024

Although the property was nice with beautiful views and brilliant location. I booked the property on the ground floor (mostly for the bath) for a weeks stay on a break from working away for 3months. That property flooded before our arrival so we were moved to the top of the property (no bath) Understood these things happen and can’t be helped. I had to go sort some business out through the week back home for one night/day. I was intending leaving my partner there and then her mum and son were going to take my place for that day/night. We have done this at times at other properties when I’m home from work I often book a week away and never faced an issue until now. The owner initially said this was fine. Then it seems after consulting her husband they said no we can’t do that citing a few reasons such as this would mucky the bedding (we already sleep separately as the missis is a very rough sleeper so the extra beds we’re already used) if we weren’t allowed to mucky the spare bed this should of been in the t&cs;. They stated that Sykes take too much of a cut to enable this as they take too much off them..surely the percentage remains the same if you don’t want a cut taking perhaps reconsider using booking agent. And they said it effects the insurance which we then thought was fair enough if that were the case but upon a closer look at the small print they were insured it was entirely up to their discretion therefore lied for their reasoning. I find it very inhospitable it would of caused no issue or difference to allow my partners oap mum and son who is 16 not a messy noisy toddler so I can’t see the problem or why they saw this as such an issue the house slept 4. We won’t be returning and won’t recommend.
