The perfect walking, cycling and touring base, the national park, coast and country are all within reach; you can find world-class mountain biking routes from the doorstep in Dalby Forest and the surrounding moorland and forest trails for the cyclists, and Bridestones, Hole of Horcum and Blakey Topping for the walkers in your group. Alternatively, take advantage of the beautiful surroundings and relax by the stream where you may see the occasional kingfisher, or even woodpeckers, cuckoos and turtle doves in the spring and summer, watch birds of prey from the forest escarpment, or wander up the lane to the moors. This bespoke shepherd’s hut was built by artisan craftsmen using local materials, with a romantic feel fit for a couples’ retreat. Inside, find a surprisingly spacious unit, with a stylish décor and compact features making use of the space, including a foldaway bed and convertible table, foldable chairs and mobile storage boxes. On arrival, you will see off-road parking near the hut, along with a garden area home to a tripod fire pit and barbecue and a sink, perfect for alfresco dining in the warmer months. Enjoy photography, painting, wood carving or engraving on the site, or simply unwind amongst the natural beauty and wildlife or indulge in a good book if the rare-breed sheep and donkeys in the nearby fields aren’t stealing your attention! A scenic drive will lead you to a good selection of country pubs, while the chocolate-box village of Thornton le Dale has lovely shopping and dining including tea shops, gift shops, ice cream parlour, general shopping, along with a model village and Matthweson’s Vintage Car Museum and Auctions, now famous on TV as Bangers & Cash. Next stop is Pickering, home of the famous NYM Heritage Railway between Pickering and Whitby travelling through Newtondale, Yorkshire's own Grand Canyon, and calling at Goathland home of Heartbeat. The market town of Helmsey is also within reach from your holiday hut, as well as the seaside resorts of Whitby and Scarborough for a day in the fresh sea air. Scalby, a picturesque village, is only 2.5 miles from the seaside resort of Scarborough. With a pub, two local shops, a quaint tea room, a hairdressers, and a beauty salon, the village centre, with its stone cottages and Victorian houses, has good facilities. With thousands of hectares of moors and forest and surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful countryside, it makes the ideal place to stay, with numerous public footpaths and the well-known Scalby Beck winding its way to the coast. A weekly farmers market selling local produce is held in the grounds of St. Lawrence's Church Rooms. Scalby is a lovely retreat after a busy day out, with Scarborough on the doorstep, with its fine, sandy beaches, good restaurants, and bustling town centre!
