Harbour House in Whitby is praised for its perfect location, comfortable furnishings, and suitability for families and large groups. Guests appreciate the well-equipped property, comfortable beds, and the inclusion of parking spaces. While some minor issues are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests willing to recommend and return to the property.
Most guests found Harbour House clean, particularly the upstairs area. However, some reported finding dust, crisps between sofa cushions, and a generally untidy bin area, which suggests room for improvement in cleaning standards.
The property's location is consistently highlighted as fantastic, with its proximity to the town centre, shops, beaches, and local attractions. It is considered ideal for exploring Whitby.
The property is frequently described as comfortable, with special mentions of the quality of the beds and the spaciousness for guests. Some reviews suggest the living room furniture could be updated for added comfort.
Facilities are generally well-received, with positive remarks on bathrooms and kitchen equipment. Criticisms include a difficult-to-use microwave, a small kitchen, and the need for maintenance in areas like the courtyard and bin passage.
While guests have mentioned a welcome pack during the Christmas season, there is insufficient information to determine if thoughtful gestures such as gifts are a consistent practice, and thus a score cannot be provided. Guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.
A superb Georgian house, set over three flours, providing welcoming accommodation in the heart of Whitby – ideal for that special family holiday or get together with friends.
With long-range views of the imposing Whitby Abbey and only minutes from the beach, harbour, shops and restaurants, this stylish property is decorated to a very high standard. The entrance hall leads to a relaxing sitting room with smart wooden floors, comfortable seating and a wood burning stove, which is supremely cosy in the cooler months. In the dining room, eight guests can easily sit down together at the dining table for an evening meal or leisurely breakfast – the décor is fresh, but with a rustic feel and a large window ensures plenty of natural light.
On to the gleaming galley kitchen, with its sparkling red granite work surfaces and quality appliances – there’s everything here that will keep holiday life running smoothly, including a washing machine and dryer in the under stairs cupboard.
Moving upstairs, there is a generous house shower room on the half landing, with shower, basin and WC. This floor boasts a spacious king-size double bedroom and en-suite shower room with shower, basin and WC, plus built in wardrobe. There is also a twin bedroom, with full size 3’ single beds. Both rooms are tastefully decorated, with quality soft furnishings for added luxury.
The second floor has another king-size double bedroom and a second twin bedroom.
If you love a relaxing bath, then prepare to be wowed by the second floor travertine tiled bathroom with fantastic plunge bath (styled on the Japanese-style deep soaking baths) – what could be nicer after a sandy day at the beach than a luxurious bubble bath?
Outside, there is an enclosed rear courtyard with stylish rattan furniture. Pull up a chair beside your loved ones, chat, breathe in the fresh sea air and enjoy your favourite pre-dinner tipple together – perfect!
Located in the West Cliff area of Whitby, close to the famous ‘whale bones’, the property is a short walk from Whitby’s bustling waterfront with its lovely array of restaurants, bars and shops. Watch the boats come and go, or pop into the RNLI Museum to see the lifeboat. The Captain Cook Memorial Museum gives an insight into the life of Whitby’s famous seafaring son. Or become an adventurer yourself and take a pleasure trip out from the harbour.
Inland, the North York Moors beckon and if you happen to be visiting in August and early September you are in for a real treat: swathes of purple blooming heather. The heritage steam locomotive from Whitby is an idyllic way to take in these wonderful landscapes.

There were x6 adults and plenty of room. Would highly recommend and hope to come back. Some small repairs needed in terms of door handles needing tightening/repairing in twin bedroom and dishwasher door needs recovering but can still use. Additional street parking is a challenge with the scratch cards, especially on weekends as we had to drive around for 20mins, although bargain price of £2.50 for 4 days.

The kitchen is tiny if you have 8 people staying, but we were largely out and about so not inclined to do much cooking ourselves. The windows were very difficult to open being old sash windows and we felt that we needed some fresh air in view of the heat during the past week. The sofa really does need replacing as one part sinks down when sitting. Overall though, the house is beautiful and the fittings and bathrooms are of a high quality and standard.

Spotless and very comfortable. Lovely thick towels. Perfect location. Only criticism is the chairs for the dining table are to big for all of us to sit at the table comfortably together. The main bathroom didnât have any shelves or cupboards so wash bags have to go on the floor. Dog friendly accommodation but only one dog bowl provided. This wasnât the end of the world because I always have a water bowl in the car. This feels a little bit like nit picking because I would 100% stay here again.
