The Ticket Office is a unique and cosy cottage praised for its cleanliness, location, and the charm of having steam trains pass by. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, thoughtful touches like a welcome tray, and the property's proximity to Whitby and local amenities. Some guests found the upstairs area challenging due to the bed's positioning and the small bathroom facilities, but many enjoyed the property's quirkiness and convenience for exploring the area.
Guests consistently noted the property's cleanliness, with many reviews highlighting the immaculate condition of the cottage. The attention to cleanliness contributed positively to the overall experience.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to Whitby, scenic walks, and the novelty of being situated on a train platform. The convenience of nearby public transport and a friendly local pub adds to the appeal, despite some comments about traffic noise.
While many guests found the cottage cosy and the bed comfortable, there were several remarks about the bed being difficult to access and the upstairs area being cramped. The comfort level varied among guests, with some finding it charming and others experiencing discomfort.
The cottage is well-equipped with necessary amenities, and guests appreciated the thoughtful provision of items like soap and dishwashing liquid. However, there were recurring comments about maintenance issues such as a leaking kitchen tap and difficulties with the TV remote, suggesting room for improvement.
Guests frequently mentioned the thoughtful welcome tray with biscuits, tea, and milk, which added a personal touch to their stay. While these gestures were well-received, it is important to note that such offerings are subject to change and may not be guaranteed for every stay.
An interesting and imaginative conversion of a stone-built Victorian Grade II listed former ticket office, set in the centre of the bustling village of Ruswarp, 1.5 miles from Whitby. Offering quirky accommodation, this Ruswarp cottage provides a perfect hideaway for couples wanting to stay somewhere a little bit different! Retaining many original features, this Ruswarp cottage has a decorative cast iron fireplace, mullion windows and tongue and groove panelled walls. The attractive, open plan living space of this Ruswarp cottage has been sympathetically restored, with slate floors, a cosy living flame gas fire and a small dining area overlooking the station platform. A spiral staircase leads up to a cabin-style bedroom and shower room, tucked into the eaves of the building. Decorated and maintained to a high standard, this Ruswarp cottage provides a comfortable holiday home with steam trains passing the door and excellent village amenities, including a good butcher's, a local shop and a pub serving real ale and good food. With boating on the River Esk and a lovely waterside tea room, the locality has much to offer. The Esk Valley Walk runs through the village and a public footpath offers a pleasant walk into the historic port of Whitby, with its pretty harbour, sandy beaches and wide range of restaurants and shops. With the beautiful heather-clad moors and dramatic coastline to explore, this Ruswarp cottage is in the perfect location.
The little North York Moors village of Ruswarp is just two miles inland from Whitby on the boundary of the National Park. It has a general store, public house and tearoom. There is an impressive viaduct crossing the River Esk, which is one of the region's major landmarks. Over five million bricks were used to build the viaduct, it is 120 feet high and was built to carry the Scarborough to Whitby railway line. The line was closed in 1965 and now the viaduct is a walking and cycle trail. Visitors can enjoy river and sea fishing or spend time boating on the river. As well as the famous North York Steam Railway, train enthusiasts can also enjoy a trip on Ruswarp's miniature steam railway. This village is in a superb location for a memorable holiday.
