The quaint hamlet of Borgue has a pub and is situated five miles south west of Kirkcudbright. The historic and picturesque town of Kirkcudbright sits on the banks of the tidal waters of the River Dee, on the north Solway shore. Established as a Royal Burgh in 1455, giving it status to trade with ports outside Scotland, Kirkcudbright has always been supported by a busy fishing trade. Behind this working harbour, its wide streets and pastel coloured houses, a mix of Georgian villas and Victorian townhouses, make for a very attractive town centre, complete with the ruined McLellan's Castle. Also worth a visit is the interesting Stewartry Museum, housing a collection of assorted items representing the life and times on the Solway coast. Kirkcudbright is also known as the artists' town, established by Edward Hornel in the late nineteenth century and still the case today, with a fine collection of art galleries, crafts, cafés and antique shops. The area offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere with attractive coastal landscapes and plenty to offer the whole family.

There were six of us (three generations) and two dogs and the property was perfect for us. The house was very peaceful with a lovely view and the enclosed garden was brilliant for the two labradors! Everything we needed was in the property and we were able to just relax. The kitchen area was great and the kitchen was very well kitted out. The logburner in the lounge was a welcome addition. We had a phone call before we arrived which was very informative and made us feel very welcome as visitors. The location was very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful starry skies of an evening. Loved it all.

The garden is large and excellent for ball games to entertain the children, if you have four legged friends they will love it too racing around, and the garden is the most secure I have encountered at any cottage. Views out to sea are nice from the expansive kitchen. A trip to the nearest beach is accessible along the quiet road around the rear of the property perhaps 1.5 miles Carrick bay, other beaches are available following short car journeys. There are several nice small towns in the area to visit and shop. For large multi generation holidays the cottage is ideal, with lots of seperate areas for noise and peace.

We were an extended family of 10 aged 4-85 and there was plenty of space, and most importantly enough bathrooms! Lovely house. It was clean and well looked after. The kitchen was well equipped. A few essentials were provided eg toilet rolls but you will need everything else. The lounge isnât big enough for everyone to sit in but the open kitchen/dining area is great. Beds were comfy. Itâs in a really quiet place. Fantastic huge garden - the dogs loved it! Owners/managers responded quickly to messages and were very helpful. Just be aware there is no access to the coast from the property - the shore is a 15 ish minute walk away. And - we couldnât find it easily on the satnav or for booking supermarket deliveries because the sign on the house says âGarden Cottageâ - then the Asda man found it easily. It does say this in the property listing but itâs not obvious. Would recommend, itâs a great house to stay in.
