Dershel Lodge is consistently praised for its superb location, comfort, and cleanliness. Guests describe it as a peaceful retreat with stunning views, well-equipped and beautifully decorated, offering a home-from-home experience. The spacious lodge is ideal for families and golf enthusiasts, with easy access to the beach and local amenities. While minor maintenance issues are mentioned, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
The lodge receives high marks for cleanliness, with numerous reviews mentioning its spotless condition. A few isolated comments suggest room for improvement in cleaning under furniture and providing sufficient cleaning products, but these do not detract significantly from the overall perception of a well-maintained property.
The location is highly commended for its tranquillity, beautiful scenery, and proximity to the beach and local attractions. The views over the golf course and the convenience of the site's amenities contribute to the lodge's appeal as an excellent holiday destination.
Guests find the lodge very comfortable, with comfortable beds and a well-equipped living space. The spaciousness and modern amenities contribute to a relaxing stay, although a mention of a dirty sheet on a bed settee indicates a slight oversight.
The lodge's facilities are generally praised, including the kitchen and entertainment options. However, some guests note the absence of certain items like a working tin opener and baking trays, as well as minor maintenance issues with furniture and door locks, suggesting room for improvement.
There are no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews. Therefore, while the overall experience is positive, there is insufficient information to assess this category.
Nestled moments away from the coast in Southerness, Dumfries and Galloway on the popular Parkdean holiday park is Dershel Lodge. This luxurious lodge benefits from off-road parking for two cars, a wrap-around decking with views across the golf course, on-site amenities including an indoor pool, bar, restaurant, adventure playground and wildlife nature trail as well as a spacious open-plan living space welcoming up to six guests. Cross the threshold and settle down on the plush sofa in front of the flickering warmth of the electric flame-effect stove and watch on as the designated chef of the group makes themselves at home in the fully-equipped kitchen. Lay the table ready to sample their culinary creation and tuck in while reminiscing on the memories you have created so far, if the sun is shining why not step outside to savour golden hour with a glass of wine. When the sun disappears behind the horizon, head inside to wash away the day’s adventures in the sleek bathroom before sloping off to sleep in either of the king-size bedrooms; one of which boasts a handy en-suite shower room. If you can tear yourself away from this fantastic site and property, head to Southerness beach where you can amble through its rocky terrain, tour the lighthouse, and admire the breath-taking views across the sea, on clear days you may even be able to spot the Isle of Man. The coast houses other wondrous attractions including the Mares Braids Waterfall hiking route which meanders through whimsical leafy woodland and rewards guests with a beautiful waterfall; there is also the Bainloch Deer Park which runs guided tours and even offers the opportunities to feed the resident deer! Venture inland to explore the John Paul Jones Museum, the impressive medieval Caerlaverock Castle which boasts its own moat, the ruins of Sweetheart Abbey or the former home of the famous poet Robert Burns. All of this and more awaits at Dershel Lodge.
Located on the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera,' Southerness is a small coastal village that was founded in the late 18th century and overlooks the Solway Firth. It has everything you could want for a restful holiday: three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean, and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools, and Gulf Stream warmed waters, not to mention one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, constructed in 1748. Criffel Hill, a nearby hill that rises to 569 metres and provides stunning views of the surrounding farmland and the Nith Estuary below, is a popular hiking destination. Views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south, and the Galloway Hills to the west can be had from the Southerness Championship Golf Course, which is located right next to the village. An ideal spot, with plenty to do for guests of all ages.
