Guests say

Caldow Cottage is frequently praised for its cleanliness, spaciousness, and central location in Kirkcudbright. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, multiple bathrooms, and off-street parking. While the interior receives high marks, the garden's condition and lack of a welcoming outdoor space are noted drawbacks. The property's charm and proximity to local amenities make it a popular choice, despite some minor maintenance issues.

The cottage is consistently described as clean and immaculate, indicating a high standard of cleanliness. However, one mention of ants suggests a slight deduction from a perfect score.

The central location is highly praised for its convenience to the town centre, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The off-street parking is also appreciated, enhancing the property's appeal.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with spacious rooms and multiple bathrooms. Comfortable beds and a well-furnished interior contribute to a pleasant stay, though the lack of a king-sized bed and a welcoming outdoor space for relaxation slightly affect the score.

The property is well-equipped with thoughtful amenities and a large kitchen. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as non-functioning bathroom fans, a need for a cleaner oven, and a garden that does not match expectations, which impacts the score.

While the reviews reflect a well-equipped property and mention thoughtful amenities, there is no specific reference to gifts provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to score this category accurately.

About this property

A traditional modernised cottage in the historic heart of Kirkcudbright, directly opposite Broughton House. Recently redecorated and refurnished, this is an ideal cottage for a holiday in Kirkcudbright. Everything in the town is within walking distance yet the property is quiet and secluded.

Kirkcudbright is a small historic town on the banks of the River Dee which formed the home of "The Glasgow Boys and Girls" artists groups resulting in the town being recognised as Scotland's Artists' Town. These connections mean that it has been a mecca for artists over the years and there are a number of exciting galleries and regular major art exhibitions in the newly converted and refurbished Kirkcudbright Gallery, formerly the town hall and also in High Street artist workshops, which are open to the public.

Beautifully located on the river, the town also boasts a working harbour used by the local fishing fleet and a marina. There is a small swimming pool and a golf course with many other golf courses nearby. Within a short drive are a number of interesting towns and villages and the Solway Coast with its sandy beaches and rocky shoreline is also within easy access.

Excellent house in ideal location. Great to have space to park 2 cars off street. Location is perfect short walk to shops, cafes, harbour. NTS house direct across road a nice visit. House was clean, tidy and well equipped. Plenty toilet/shower facilities for extended families. Very quiet and peaceful. Lots of visitor information for ideas on day trips and also sheets on history of house and kirkcudbright. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We really enjoyed our stay in Kirkcudbright and the cottage was well placed within the town. The cottage was well equipped and very quiet & comfortable. There were a few things that we recommended for future guests on the suggestion list ie provision of waste basket in bedrooms, fans in both bathrooms did not work, coffee a nice gesture but rock solid, oven needed a good clean, but on the whole a very comfortable visit and we would certainly return

Very comfortable accommodation. Good to have 2 off-street parking spaces. Within easy walking distance of restaurants/hotels, shops and harbour.
