Darnhay Cottage is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and peaceful location. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, the warm welcome from the owners, and the thoughtful touches like a homemade cake. Despite a few mentions of heating issues and bed comfort, the overall sentiment is extremely positive, with many guests eager to return.
The cottage receives consistent commendations for its cleanliness, with multiple reviews highlighting its fresh and well-maintained state. This suggests a high standard of cleanliness that guests appreciate.
The location is described as peaceful and quiet, with beautiful surroundings and good access to local attractions. While remote, it is still within easy reach of towns and historical sites, making it an ideal base for exploring.
Comfort is frequently mentioned, with guests finding the beds extremely comfortable and the cottage cosy, especially with the log burner. However, a few guests noted issues with heating and bed comfort, slightly lowering the score.
Facilities are generally praised for being well-equipped and maintained, with modern conveniences like a big TV and wood burning stove. However, a couple of reviews mentioned a lack of logs and control over heating, indicating room for improvement.
Guests frequently mention the thoughtful gesture of a homemade cake on arrival, which adds a personal touch to their stay. While this is a positive aspect, it is noted that such gestures, though delightful, are subject to the owners' discretion and may not be guaranteed.

The village of Mauchline sits peacefully in the lovely hills and countryside in an ideal spot for exploring the beautiful scenery of Ayrshire and the Isle of Arran. Mauchline is probably most famous for being the home of Robert Burns, who farmed in the area for many years and the house he shared with his wife Jean Amour, is now a museum and part of the Burns Trail. There are several golf courses including The Royal Troon close to the village. Culzean Castle is a magnificent National Trust for Scotland property and has been the principal seat of the Kennedy Family since 1759. Quiet location but good access to attractions and places of interest.

Peaceful country setting with lots of wildlife including a flock of swallows. Good long walks. All facilities we needed and comfortable. Thank you.
Judith
The provision of a beautiful homemade sponge cake on our arrival was a lovely gesture which we appreciated. The location is good for visiting several places of interest eg Dumfries House, Drumlanrig Castle. However, it was difficult to find anywhere locally that provided evening meals which was disappointing for us. However, anyone who is happy to self-cater for a week can purchase provisions locally.
