Kilchoan 4 miles.
A charming stone-built detached cottage, superbly located on a hillside in the small, isolated village of Portuairk, the most westerly settlement on the British mainland, at the western end of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. From its elevated location this Scotland cottage provides breathtaking views over the sea to the Isle of Skye and the small islands of Muck, Eigg, Rhum and Canna. This Scotland self-catering cottage would suit those who want to appreciate the tranquillity and stunning landscape, with its fabulous sandy beaches and abundance of wildlife. The cosy accommodation in this Scotland cottage includes a well-equipped kitchen, a bright sitting/dining room with woodburner and also a double sofa bed if needed. The double bedroom is very spacious and comfortable, ideal for a restful sleep after a day of boat trips, sandy beaches, island-hopping and good walking. All the windows of this Scotland cottage look out over the sea and across to the fabulous sands of Sanna Beach, a short walk away. The neat and private front garden has a patio with dining area - a great place to enjoy an alfresco meal or drink. The nearby village of Kilchoan has a well-stocked shop and is also the ferry terminal providing regular daily trips across to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, so why not nip across the waters to enjoy a meal out on Mull or perhaps do some shopping in the nice array of shops Tobermory has to offer? The nearby Ardnamurchan Lighthouse is well worth a visit, with its welcoming tea room, and there are some good hotels within a short drive of your Scotland cottage. In fact this is a wonderful place to visit, whether for outdoor pursuits or to simply relax, chill out and enjoy the hills, sea and beaches.

The house was nicely equipped, unfortunately the shower broke on the Wednesday and hadnât been fixed by our departure on Saturday. But we appreciate itâs difficult to get things fixed or replaced quickly in a remote location. Also, not convinced that the heater in the corridor was working at all. Pretty sure Iâd read there was a pub a mile away, certainly was a bit further than that via the single tracked roads, probably about 15-20 mins away by car. One suggestion would be to make the fence a bit more solid as one of our dogs disappeared and had gone into the field next door, sheâs a small Jack Russell Terrier and must have squeezed through, had she gone into the undergrowth we wouldnât have spotted her. Had to keep her on her lead for the rest of the holiday. But overall we loved our stay and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a stay with peace and quiet and solitude.

The cottage is very well equipped, cosy and spotlessly clean. A lot of love has gone into the house, you can tell. The views are spectacular and location perfect to unwind and enjoy peace and tranquility. The owners are very helpful and I would absolutely love to return here.

Addressing a couple of the issues of earlier reviewers - there is a dog waste bin near to the property, though the sign on it has faded, and it is only a couple of minutes to the beach but you need to find the shortcut beside neighbouring cottages. The freezer drawers were a bit of a nightmare, Iâd say theyâve been damaged at some point. The one thing that annoyed me was that Sykes provided a ânumber not availableâ as the contact number for the owner. My dogs and I had a lovely break in Maryâs House (pity the photo and information about Mary were missing)
