Guests say

Ridge End Cottage receives high praise for its comfort, stunning views, and well-equipped facilities. Guests appreciate the tranquil location, ideal for experiencing the natural beauty of Skye. The cottage's cleanliness and the hosts' attentiveness contribute to a highly recommended stay, with many expressing a desire to return.

Reviewers consistently mention the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as 'spotlessly clean' and 'immaculately clean', indicating a very high standard of cleanliness maintained by the hosts.

The location is celebrated for its tranquillity and stunning views, with guests enjoying the proximity to wildlife and scenic spots. Its remoteness is seen as a positive aspect, though it may not suit everyone's preferences.

Guests find the cottage extremely comfortable, with cosy furnishings, warm quilts, and a well-stocked kitchen. The comfort of the beds and the overall cosiness of the cottage contribute to a very comfortable stay.

The cottage is well-equipped for self-catering, with ample utensils and modern amenities. However, a minor issue with a shower head alignment and a mention of a slanted bed suggest room for improvement in maintenance.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident through the provision of starter packs for the log burner, local eggs, and fudge. While such gifts enhance the experience, they are personal touches and may vary with each stay.

About this property

Situated in the scattered and isolated crofting township of Conista, within the surrounds of Duntulm, in the far north of the Trotternish Peninsula of Skye, Ridge End Cottage enjoys spectacular views over tranquil crofts to the sea and distant mountains. Unusually designed, the traditional, whitewashed exterior of this detached cottage belies its modern décor, with a cathedral ceiling and a mezzanine bedroom. The high standard of craftsmanship, cosy furnishings and amount of wood used give a warm, welcoming atmosphere. With great hill and coastal walking, and boat trips nearby, the cottage is an ideal wildlife and birdwatcher's retreat. The elusive corncrake inhabits a number of crofting meadows nearby, and a sighting of the rare merlin is possible. Along the seashore and lochs, otters and seals patrol the sheltered bays. Seabirds including diving gannets, cormorants, guillemots and puffins abound. A stay at Ridge End Cottage promises to be a memorable holiday indeed. EPC Rating: Band C

Situated on the Trotternish Peninsula in the north of Skye is the scattered village of Conista - formed from a few, traditionally whitewashed cottages. Ten miles from the village of Uig, and six from Staffin, Conista is well served by local amenities. It also boasts close proximity to Duntulm, named after a steep rocky headland where the ruins of Duntulm Castle can be seen. The entire island offers excellent walking routes, as does the nearby mainland - accessible by both road bridge and ferry - whilst the breathtaking scenery makes a wonderful backdrop for cycling trips, fishing and birdwatching, especially as many seabirds use the steep cliffs during the early summer, including the rare Fulmar.

A good starter pack for the log burner was provided and the central heating was simple to control which isn’t always the case in some places we’ve stayed! Beds were very comfortable and I had the best sleep in years. Location is in the north of Skye but everywhere is accessible by car and the scenery is amazing. Due to the time of year, we stayed in during the evenings and ate out for lunches - Three Chimneys at Talisker and Columba 1400 in Staffin were both lovely, Columba 1400 meriting a return visit for the amazing Cullen Skink! Great communication with Catriona who owns the cottage, letting us know when the Aurora Borealis were likely and other info we might find useful. Unfortunately due to circumstances we didn’t get to meet. It’s a solid 10/10 for everything regarding this holiday. If I return to Skye I’d definitely go back to Ridge End and recommend it to anyone thinking of a holiday on Skye.

Had a fantastic time on the Isle of Skye. Thank you to Catriona and Peter.

The environment is impressive (lots of wild rabbits and sheep right next to the house), the view from the house. The house is very well equipped, we loved being there. They drew our attention to the potholes, but we managed to get into one in the rain and got a flat tire before our arrival in the middle of the night, literally in the middle of nowhere, 20 minutes from the house on a one-lane road (5 km from UIG). I asked Catriona for help, she was very kind and helpful, she asked a friend to come pick up my family and take them to the accommodation late at night while I arranged the car service. So be careful on the one-lane roads, there are huge potholes (all single-lane roads on the island). The trip to Skye was a great experience for us, even though we went in October. If we ever return, we would choose Ridge End Cottage again without a second thought, even though it is really a very remote part of the island.
