Guests consistently praise Am Bathach for its cleanliness, comfort, and the warm welcome provided by the hosts. The property is noted for its beautiful decoration, well-equipped kitchen, and thoughtful touches such as a welcome hamper. Its rural location is ideal for those seeking tranquillity and is central for exploring coasts. Some guests mentioned minor improvements, but overall experiences were highly positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviewers frequently commend the property for its cleanliness, describing it as 'very clean and comfortable' and 'super clean'. The high standard of housekeeping is noted, contributing to guests' enjoyable stays.

The property's location is appreciated for its peacefulness and centrality for coast exploration. While some guests found it very remote and were disappointed by the immediate views, the majority valued the tranquillity and rural setting.

Comfort is a highlight, with guests mentioning 'large comfortable beds', 'cozy' surroundings, and a 'home from home' feel. The property's furnishings and warmth contribute to a comfortable experience, although one review mentioned a noise issue with the heating system.

Facilities are generally praised, especially the well-equipped kitchen and extra touches. However, suggestions for an ensuite addition and minor kitchenware improvements indicate there is room for enhancement. The mention of a 'borrowed' freezer shelf suggests some limitations.

The hosts' thoughtfulness is frequently highlighted, with mentions of welcome hampers, home baking, and food for the first night. While these gestures are greatly appreciated, it is politely noted that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Situated in the very heart of Sutherland, the most northerly county on the British mainland and a world renowned area for its stunning scenery, wildlife, food and drink, Am Bathach is part of a traditional working croft where Hebridean Sheep can be seen grazing and running on the surrounding hills of heather.

The cottage is part of an extensive refurbishment carried out on the original cow barn using traditional stonework and cedar logs from Pioneer Log Homes of Canada. Tastefully decorated using local tweeds and traditional furnishings complemented by modern appliances used in a contemporary way.

The area is world renowned for its stunning scenery, wildlife, food and drink and friendly local communities. Not so well known is the low rainfall and mild climate due to the Atlantic Gulf Stream, with glorious summers and beautiful long sunsets throughout the year. The dark sky is a stunning sight with the stars clearly visible, particularly here in Altass.

The cottage is situated in the small hamlet of Rosehall which is surrounded by magnificent salmon fishing rivers and trout lochs, woodland walks and a welcoming local hotel serving delicious food.

A perfect base for touring, being based midway between west, north and east coasts, where the varied coastline is a magnet for wildlife and birdwatching.

Lodge was very clean and well stocked up. The owners were also staying onsite and were very friendly and happy to give advice on places to eat or visit nearby and also left a basket of food and a bottle of wine on arrival which was much appreciated. Lovely place to stay, the only thing I’d say was the bed mattresses were a bit hard. Would highly recommend booking here.

A wonderful property in the most stunning location. The welcome hamper was excellent (as was the cake!) and we were made to feel very welcome by the owners and their family, without intrusion. Our dogs enjoyed running around the grounds with owners dogs too. We found the property a real home from home and we are already looking at when we can return.
