Guests say

Guests consistently praise the cottage for its cleanliness, comfort, and excellent location. The property is well-equipped, with a special mention of a generous welcome pack, and is described as a home from home. The local area offers great amenities and scenic walks, with friendly locals adding to the experience. The cottage's thoughtful touches, such as toys and games, contribute to a memorable stay.

Reviewers frequently highlight the exceptional cleanliness of the cottage, describing it as spotless and beautifully clean, which suggests a very high standard of hygiene and upkeep.

The location is highly praised for its quiet setting, proximity to local amenities, and scenic walks. The ease of parking and the nearby harbour add to the appeal, indicating a prime location for a holiday stay.

Comfort is a recurring theme, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy. The presence of a log burner and the overall homely feel contribute to a very comfortable experience.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and additional amenities like video games and a coffee machine. However, a minor quibble about blunt kitchen knives slightly lowers the score.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident in the welcome pack and additional touches like toys and fresh flowers. While these gifts are highly appreciated by guests, it is politely noted that such extras, while common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Situated in the heart of the friendly and welcoming village of Portknockie is this detached stone-built fisherman's cottage offering smart and extremely comfortable accommodation. With lots of space spread out over two floors, SLATER'S is a traditional Grade C listed property in the conservation part of Portknockie. For many years a general hardware store owned by the Slater family, this is an ideal venue for a large family or group of friends who want to explore the fabulous North East coastline of Scotland. At ground floor level there is the sumptuous master bedroom with en-suite facilities and also a cosy stacker bedroom that can double up as a snug, with a PlayStation 3 and games to keep the children (and adults) very happy indeed. The sitting/dining room has a welcoming woodburning stove to ensure cosy nights in and relaxed meals around the dining table. The contemporary kitchen has a breakfast area and every appliance necessary to allow for the easy preparation of great meals. An external door from the kitchen gives access to the private patio at the rear of the cottage, a great place for quiet morning coffee or a pre-dinner glass of wine. The upper floor has a bright, fresh shower room and also a double and twin bedroom both benefiting from large bay windows providing pretty views across the rooftops to the sea, or to watch the sun setting over the Caithness Hills. Being centrally situated there is easy access to the local shops, pub, hotel, chip shop and the lovely harbour, with its outdoor swimming pool for children to enjoy during the summer months. This part of Scotland has many pretty villages dotted along the rugged coastline. The Moray Firth is famous for its jumping dolphins and they can be seen from land or by taking one of the many boat trips out onto the open sea. Walkers and wildlife spotters will be in paradise; there’s so much to see and experience in this delightful corner of Scotland. This wonderful cottage will ensure a fabulous holiday for all! EPC Rating: Band E

Portknockie is a popular coastal village in a cliff-top position, overlooking a natural harbour on the Moray Firth Coast. You can explore the craggy cliff-tops, beaches and secret coves or look out for the dolphins, seals and sea birds that live in the Moray Firth. The town of Cullen is nearby and is renowned for its Cullen Skink (smoked haddock and potato soup) or you may wish to enjoy a round of golf.

We had a great stay. Mark left us an amazing welcome hamper on arrival. I would recommend a stay to everyone.

Lovely welcome pack. Definitely recommend the accommodation.

We loved our time there. I have highlighted all the happy smiley faces as I have no complaints at all. The only suggestion that I would make would be more cutlery and a rolling pin!! We are all enthusiastic home cooks, although the fish and chips from round the corner were the best ever, and the Chinese Takeaway delicious and generous.
